I know that ns being a predomiantely north american forum doesn't watch much football (soccer) but:

Kaka and Ronaldo have signed for Real Madrid for £60m and £80m respectively ($120m and $150m). Both on about $400,000 a week. Wait till Man City get onto the market, they have the whole emirates oil backing behind them. Thus giving them about £400m ($800,) a season to spend, so the market will become even more distorted.

Bare in mind that both of them, especially so in Ronaldo's case have moved to an inferior club (results wise). Both Man Utd and AC Milan have been far more successful recently than Real, particuarly so in Uniteds case

I guess my point is: does any north american sport have that sort of money to pay for the players and the money to pay them there after? Is this shot covered in the US media? It is ruining a sport I love and much of Europe lives for. All seems ludicrous to me and just interested in anyone elses opinion.

There's a pretty good thread on this from the other day....

But, for one Real Madrid isn't an inferior club than AC Milan or Man Utd.  Granted Man U has had better results in the past few years it still doesn't compare to the prestige and reputation of Real Madrid.  Madrid is the biggest club in the world, and has been for years. 

I don't know if them collecting superstars is going to work out, it'll definetly help with the ratings for La Liga though!

not true, most baseball teams have 40-man rosters with 25-30 player active roster.

yeah man the yankees in baseball.  their penalty for exceeding the salery cap is more then some players entire saleries.  (so i have been told from many people, have not checked it out myself)

Those numbers don't really mean anything because they are all multi year contracts. Get the per year numbers.

ya but the point is american soccer players get payed nothing.   i dont have any definte examples i just remember reading in my local newspaper that most get payed very little, at least compared to other major sports.  just think of it logically, soccer is not popular at all here, why would they get paid that much if not a lot of people see it?

Kaka didn't want to go, Milan had to sell him because they are in huge debt, and he probably took a step up really, because milan are getting old and the best players are all leaving. As for Ronaldo, he has definitely taken a step down as far as it goes for his career. Utd. should have cashed in when Real would have offered them more for him.

so milan sold him because of their debts but remember, real has € 500 m debts too, barca has € 400 m minus.

i just say that because i hate it how everyone loves the spanish teams but noone sees that they are in no way cost-effective
