How many of you have seasonal jobs this summer? Im living in a major US city and cannot find work anywhere, no one will hire me becuase im in college and would leave in late august. I haven't even mentioned college on my resume' yet interviewers have always been like "were not hiring kids who go to college". Ive even had to lie and say i want the job for as long as a time period as I can see. I think its bullshit, any pointers or tips to get seasonal work or places to apply?

i say this to everyone that is having a "hard" time getting a job.

try mcdonalds. or burger king. or something like that.

there is no shame in working minimum wage to get a paycheck.

i live in the portland area and got a job as a mover (i go to houses, box peoples shit, and put the boxes in a truck) in westbrook. they hire dozens of college kids for the summer. where are you from?

if people are willing to work they will find work, the problem is most people have a certain image of themselves and find some jobs to be below their standard...

i live in DC. Same problem. For jobs they would normally hire seasonal college kids they are hiring full time adults because those adults cant find other work. For internships, they want alot of college experience rather than a graduated high schooler or a freshman/sophomore in college.

for me, i got hooked the hell up. at my house in long beach island, NJ, my grandpa is good friends with this dude who owns a marina across the street from my house so i got set up there and im working at a gas station some nights, just because im bestys with the dude who runs it

i'm doing an internship at magnum photos but to get cash i'm working reunions at my school which pays like 250 for 3 days and then i'm working construction for my dad

holy shit yea man im in DC dealing with the same bullshit all my seasonal jobs are being taken by adults a guy with his masters degree got interviewed before me to work as a server in a restaurant its unbelievable. If I still lived in Maine I feel like easily would have found work and the economy is way worse there. I have looked at some shit jobs too that pay nothing, there is no work!!!!

just as a reminder...server at a restaurant is a few pegs above flipping burgers. im sure you can find a fast food joint somewhere. i worked two years at quiznos, a year doing construction and landscaping, and finally im doing my hospital/ambulance work.

just go flip burgers dog. it will give you a better appreciation for life, and motivation to better yourself. if you dont need any of that, then im sure you can use the 7.45/hr they will pay you.

word true that its not that im above making 7 bucks an hour i just have tons of shit to pay for next winter/fall  maybe multiple crap  burger jobs i suppose i like your view on it though thanks!

i am having the same problem. i have applied to over 50 places and all of them have told me that they are only hiring people who are going to be around longer then i am, they arent hiring at that time (or anymore), or they will call me in two weeks IF they are hiring then and i never get a call.

balls, i need a job!

just for the people out there who think im hating, my little bro is having a hard time finding a job too. and he has been applying to low level places, although he wont go to mcdonalds. he has tried other places like marshalls and such.

im just saying, the vast majority of people i know that just cant find a job are not including minimum wage jobs. like i said, swallow the pride. i liked it when my classmates came into quiznos and were like, "you work?". then they would go, "making SANDWICHES!?".
