Replying to What should i do - employer issue
so for a summer job i was working for an inflatable company. been there about 3 months doing senior all night parties. the other night a couple of us decided to have a few beers before the event started, stupid i know. anyways everything went well and our client said we did a very good job. somehow word gets around of this and the owner of the company finds out. this guy is a total scumbag. tries to dock money for stupid shit, hides a lot of his income from the IRS, saves pictures of girls from the photobooths we rent out. now he starts his investigation and it starts out with all of us denying it. finally one kid cracks so at that point i was like whatever, i admitted i had two beers and it was stupid. says he's going to fire me, not pay me for the event (14 hours) and "fine" me $50 dollars. as far as i know all of that is illegal. i looked up michigan law and it looks like i can file a wage claim for unpaid wages, it's illegal to not pay worked hours even if terminated. i really don't want to get screwed out of this money. only thing i'm worried about, if he happened to record me on the phone saying i had 2 beers, does that give him any leverage? is it worth going through this shit or should i just let it go?
