Who here DOES NOT have a facebook

so, i dont have a facebook, but my girl just got one and now im being tempted to get one. but my reasons for not having one are many. i dont want to keep in contact with anyone i went to school with. i dont want to be in contact with anyone i work with, and i feel like the second i get one i will be stuck in this awkward limbo of turning people down as friends. that and i disagree philosophically with facebook. i just feel like its not needed in my close knit friend group.

so besides the fact that i already live fine without one, what are some other reasons that i have that you believe is a good reason to not have one. or if you dont have one, you can tell me about your life without it.

kinda sounds to me like you're just being anti-social and hate everyone...

I personally think it's a great way to keep in touch with friends I went to school with or worked with.

i find it pathetic when people actually spend time on facebook but it's such a good way to keep up with old friends, there're so many people that i used to know that i would never talk to if it weren't for facebook

i really hate how addicting is. its actually brought the social skills of most teenagers down significantly. i blew it with a girl because we started talking on facebook and speaking in person became super awkward. unless your keeping in touch, i think its stupid, but i cant not use it...

I personally don't have one, because i feel they're good for keeping in touch with people, but they've gotten ridiculous. Check my facebook, i'll facebook you, it's facebook official.etc...

Facebook just does a lot more harm than good. Dont get one if you havent got one already. It will just waste hours of your life and you'll end up getting caught up in petty facebook fights and find pictures tagged of you that you really dont want etc. etc.

good way to keep in touch with international friends and people you'd like to know but only had a brief chance to meet. But otherwise its fucking annoying,causes way too much drama and people albums are annoyinf

I'll be straight up with you, facebook is sick.  You can use it as much as you want or as little as you want.  I know a ton of people that have them and just let them be for the most part.  I don't get caught up in all of the applications and that garbage but it is really a great tool.  It makes it so much easier to see how your friends are doing and keep in touch with people you don't see everyday.  Its also perfect for organzing things.  I have gotten a large amount of invitations to my friend's parties and events through facebook.

Also, my tight knit group of friends has a thread going (like on NS) where we can all chat and post links to funny videos or plan the night or whatever.

Theres no reason not to have one.  Just make one, put up a photo, and check it every now and then.  I reject people all the time that I don't know.  They don't get notified and won't notice. But being friends with someone on facebook is nothing serious.

Plus its great for looking at pictures of your hot girl friends in bikinis...

for the people here that say i dont have friends or am anti-social, i dont operate like a normal college/high-schooler with asher roth running through my head. i have a few good friends across the country or close, hang out with them often, and keep in touch perfectly fine without facebook.

im not hating on anyone with facebook, i do in fact see the benefits. i would love it to keep in touch with my sister in virginia, but then again i dont want an employer to go through my network of friends or whatever and paint a picture of me from that. or more simply, i dont want my time to be dominated by something else ON TOP of newschoolers...

and i do have issues with internet social networking. i just think it changes our relationships negatively in many situations.

and sorry for not wanting to be associated with the majority of retarded kids i went to school with. you dont know me or them, so dont assume things. i went to school with almost all super rich, super stuck up people, save some. i make my living now wiping asses and doing CPR, go to a community college part time, and dont have any connection to that formal world. i just think that the paths they took and i took diverged too much at this point to keep in contact.

i understand were your coming from, the main reason i got one is because i went to boarding school for 3 years. i know people from all across the country and world, its nice to keep in touch with them along with all the kids in my town

i do this too. my close group of friends all go to different colleges so it's nice to keep in touch with them with like a thread of messages to each other.

but if you're thinking about getting one, just do it. deny people as a friend, if you didnt want to be associated with them anyway who gives a fuck if you hit the ignore button on their friend requests? if you don't like it, just delete anything people have tagged you in and deactivate your account. it's not "addicting" unless you're in highschool and let yourself get into all that petty drama/stalking people bullshit. i don't give a fuck about it unless i want to talk to friends from college that live in different areas or have to get in contact with people and i don't have their numbers (plus it's good for remembering people's birthdays and parties/social events coming up). if you don't want pictures, untag yourself and if it's thatbad ask the poster to delete them. it's really not that big of a deal though, do what you want.

I think you have gotten Myspace and Facebook confused. Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with old friends and you can remove tags of yourself in pictures if that's what people are worried about. But it is a giant time waster.

In my honest opinion, Facebook is like everything else in that you should use it as a tool. As in, it's not some awful deed to have an account there. If you have one, awesome. Use it to stay in touch with friends or whatever you want to do. Use it in moderation. Having one doesn't mean you suddenly need to be on it 24/7! Check it every few days, no one is forcing you to use it.  And if you don't have one, whatever that's your decision as well. There's no rule saying you must be either obssesed with it or you must hate it. Use it how you want to use it.

screw fb. its become the new myspace at this point. I dont have one, and now that there is no age limit like there used to be, I have no interest in starting one. plus that shit gets hella addictive if you use it to much. effen NS already eats up most of my free time now

funny that you say that because it wasnt even intended for highschoolers, it was supposed to be a way for kids to stay in touch with those they went to highschool with and an easier way to meet new kids at college, it has just blown up into the most social thing on the internet and is used by people ranging from from junior high up to our parents now. i personally think its great, everyone hating on it reminds me of the non conformist from south park, unless you have a reason such as sports or a job that could look at your pictures and get you in trouble for what they see

If you dont have anyone to keep in touch with, dont get it. Remember that employers will look for you on it. If people request you as a friend and you dont want to be friends, dont be, they wont notice. Just dont do the applications and that crap

i dont hate it by any means but i dont really see the point and therefore dont have one. ive used my friends password to look at pictures someone told me to look at, and beyond that i dont see a reason to get one. but if you like it, facebook on!
