1080 P flatscreen high def tvs

has anybody else watched a 1080p tv?  The picture looks really fucked up in my opinion compared to 1080i high def tvs. and watching movies on 1080p makes everything seem artificial and animated. I dont know why anybody would prefer 1080p over 1080i.

1080p is a higher resolution, the screen refreshes much faster so colors stay more active and colorful.

i've played xbox on 1080p and it seemed like everything was really shiny or really dark, the colors weren't soft, i probably had the settings wrong

and 1080p is much more clear than 1080i
i did a comparison this weekend between my tv and my sisters, and her's is much more clear (same brand as well)

ok, this isnt word for word what i was told when my parents bought the house's high def TV but ill try to put this down in plain english.

when you buy a TV straight from the store the colors are set to show the Blacks REALLY black and the whites REALLY white....  now, best buy at least has a deal that after 30 days of owning a TV a guy will come out and reset the colors to be more natural.  and it makes a difference.

and the animated thing for high def shows is because its showing it in "TruMotion" or "FluidMotion" or some other sort of motion thing depending on brand because if you watch the shows on standard def tv every movement has a bit of a blur...  but in actuality that blur does no exist.

it all depends on what tv it is, and what game your playing, for example, in halo i would turn up the colors to make the game seem more rich, but in bioshock i would crank the blacks to give the game a darker feel like it is intended to have.

hmmm so you are crazy. 

1. 1080p is just a 1080i signal that shows the whole image every time the screen refreshes as opposed to 1080i which just shows half of the screen each time it refreshes it is just split into lines that alternate each time.  so, the resolution from 1080p to 1080i is exactly the same. 

2. go on the avs forums and find your specific tv and find out what people calibrated their colors and screen settings to on there.  many people on there spends literally hundreds of dollars to get their tvs custom calibrated for the best and most true to life picture.  it made a huge difference for mine.

3. picture looking fucked up? are you saying that you are comparing brand to brand, or is it the same brand for both

4. as far as i know there is nothing that can broadcast a true 1080p signal to a tv, all cable at the moment is 1080i and i dont think xbox or ps3 has anything that is 1080p native, so the tv is converting it up to 1080p

5.  someone brought up the trumotion stuff, usually all those noise filters and extra shit are just gimmics and make the tv picture look worse, try turning them off and see what difference it makes

6.  how does the picture look fake? i am very confused by this whole thread


next time please come with coherent questions and do some research as well so you at least know what you are talking about

Not true actually. Both xbox 360 and PS3 have a lot of games that are 1080p native and you can get full 1080p if you use an HDMI cable to connect the console to the tv

the resolution, in terms of actual lines of resolution, is the same. but really, 1080p is (probably not noticeably so) somewhat softer, because it records the entire image at once, and therefore can't capture quite the level of definition that interlaced footage can. however, interlaced footage of moving objects is softer.

1080p is much better.

if you have Blu ray is 1080p video so it looks perfect

however. my HD cable from comcast only comes in at 1080i so it might look better for just TV

You're probably talking about the 240mhz they started putting on 1080p tv's that's getting you that weird look. It makes the picture super smooth which makes some movies looked fucked up.

i know what you mean i went to best buy and they were playing some sitcom on two tvs, one tv looked so full of colour and resolution that you could literally tell that this was a set and the other tv just looked like a normal tv show. everything just looked soo fake.
