Connecting macbook to non-HD tv question

ok so i was doing research on the internet on how to accomplish this...because i'm a newly graduated college student and can't exactly afford cable at the moment so i wanna play tv shows from Hulu and stuff through my computer on my tv.

so all you mac experts, or anybody who has successfully done this, please tell me if this is correct.

1.) i connect my macbook to an Apple Mini DVI to VGA adapter cable, and connect that to a VGA to RGB component cable to the tv finally like so....

has anybody done this, is that how i would go about doing it? I want to go but the connectors at the apple store tomorrow. I know this doesn't take care of the sound issue but i think i have the right cable for that already.

please help if you have experience with this, thanks a lot guys. +k if that floats your boat

should be fine except for sound.. which you'll need to get one of these in order to use:

(obviously use these two rca plugs to plug into the tv instead of using the two that are attached to the yellow cable.)

you'd probably have to get another cable or some shit

but honestly dude, sell your macbook, get a regular windows laptop, and get cable

You can afford internet but not cable? Cable is like 20 bucks more a month when you have cable internet too...

at the moment with transitioning from my old apartment to a new one and not getting paid yet it's just easier. Plus it'd be cool to be able to use my tv to watch edits and shit online or use it as a monitor. I know it sounds dumb but yeah, i'm a bit short on the dollars at the moment
