Replying to So, im gonna make a thread concerning style and skiing.
the biggest problem we have is not the fact that something like 90% of NS dresses tall and large, or that the other 20% either doesnt give a fuck, skis with beacons and shovels in their backpack or wears tight pants and what not, its that we all get so touchy about criticism AND that something like 90% of the site dresses like one another in some way or form. im not saying everybodys got a g-suit on (though we're working on it) and i realize everyone has their own individual style, i just feel like there is a huge power block on one side of skiing, and im seeing zero diversity. its like every edit is the same nowadays. im not gonna hate on tall tees and a-bang, i love it. fuckin Hornbeck is the man, no one doubts that. and no one doubts that Mr. Parry, a man at home with magic spiders and hippiekilling, is just as much the man. im also not cool with people hating on tight pants because theyre "gay". vikings wore tight leggings, and if you called them gay im pretty sure you would recieve multiple axe wounds to your fucking skull.
now heres the problem. those are the only two styles or fashions coming out of "newschool" skiing today. "gangsta" and "hesh" or "gypsy" (though they arent the same thing they share the common tighter fitting pant trend). we still have the powderhounds and the guys who rip AK er'ryday, and the dudes who are stuck in 2003 with studded belts and green boots, as well as those dudes who refuse to leave 2006 and take off their one piece. (again, no hate just jokes, i own a matchy matchy suit too). we just need some fuckin diversity man. and we need some fuckin respect to go along with it. we can all agree being a douchebag isnt cool. hating on POSERS wearing tall tees and not knowing how to ski is perfectly acceptable. i expect people to hate on POSERS wearing any clothes. you pose, you get knocked. (not talking about beginners, im talking about legitimate shitheads that think they are good skiers and act like their good skiers and talk down on actual good skiers) but being a complete asshole and just calling out everything that isnt exactly down your alley is just fucking stupid and really fucking annoying. so lets please just be like snowboarders and realize we're all just doing the same thing.
wheres the love NS? NS used to be blood in blood out. like a gang. you may not like some guys opinion on the site on what looks cool and what doesnt, but fuck, he still a skier, he should still be your homie. who gives a fuck what hes wearing.
also, i would like to make a huge claim right about now on something i saw happen this season that i predicted about 3 years ago. i made a thread that stated that we needed to get more creative on rails, and start realizing the possibilties we had. this season we saw the explosion of creativity we've been lacking for a long time. (we're still fucking behind the snowboarders) and alot of the shit i said we should start looking into ie. more presses, ollieing onto objects from the flat (though people still need to get on this more), 50-50s became "cool" after Tim Warrisch did one etc etc.
I CALLED IT! so im gonna go ahead and claim it. AYHSMB.
