Need some camera (video) suggestions

Just a quick post, need to get to bed.  Here's the deal.  In about a month I'm going to be traveling to Kenya where I'll be going out into the middle of no where to do some mission work.  I'm being sent for pretty much the sole purpose of filming the trip and experience to turn into a product that can allow people to slightly understand what is going on there.  Unfortunately I know close to nothing when it comes to buying a camera.  I know that I want HD forsure.  I'm not really sure on the price range.  I don't want a little handheld camera, but I don't want anything ridiculously big.  Just throw some ideas at me, and try to include a sample filmed with it.  Thanks much.

You're gonna need a price range there bud. And the fact you don't know anything about cameras is gonna limit you to a small hand held.

i got a jvc gz hd7 and absolutly llove it. got it from ebay (1 of my 3 from there). the HD , so far, turns out realll good. most people hate jvc cuzz of their video file names, but its not that bad

this is a little pricer camera though

that would be just about the worst camera for going to the middle of no where.

for 3400 you can get a Panasonic hmc150, really good camera

and for 700 you can get a canon hf11, i would recommend this one, they filmed crank 2 with it if I'm not mistaken.

Only a few scenes were filmed with the HF10, the rest was XH-A1 and some Ex1 for slow motion.

I'd look into the canon HFS10 or the HV30.

I'm thinking your gonna want to go with tape because you will have limited computer access out in Africa or wherever. With an HDV cam, you can bulk up on tapes and record lots of footage without having to worry about storage.

Your probably going to go with a handheld camera, but dont judge a camera by its looks. Sounds to me like the HV30 is perfect for you, probably throw in a sun shade and shotgun mic (DM-50 maybes). Be sure to get plenty of batteries too, you dont want to have them die on you while your far from an outlet. Good luck

Double post!

They didnt film crank 2 with it, they shot it with a canon prosumer hdv cam. they used hf11 for dangerous experimental b-roll shots where they didnt really care about breaking the cam, like "hey, lets duct tape an hf11 to the bottom of this car for fun!"

well not quite but you get the point

for going to the middle of no where?! i dont really understand that. if you mean like size wise, than your wrong because its a small handheld camera.

because its a hard drive camera, the more moving parts the more unreliable, this is why hard drive cameras suck.

yeah, true true, but the jvc hd7 does not suck bad ( if comparing to the the gl1 yo) .

really sorry for the question on someone elses thread, but  i was just wondering, do hard drive cams freeze up and ruin in the cold, while filming?? i heard stuff like that, but i havent had problems with it yet...

Most likely looking under 2 grand, and although i'm in the middle of nowhere, it's not gonna be a man vs. wild thing, but there will probably be a lack of power outlets for the majority of the trip.

Hf10/11 or hv30

i have the hf10 and love it, the hd is great
