Macbook question

if you want to upgrade things just buy a pc and do it for much much cheaper. will you need to for any special programs? i got teh black macbook last year, fucking love it, but i really dont need it for more than regular shit, no art programs or anything. id say if you are just gonna be on the internet doing usual shit then the 2.0ghz would be fine. btu ir eally dont know what ghz even are, btu id assume the less there is, the cheaper, and not as burley itll be

got a macbook pro last year, best computer ive ever had...the 2.4 is obviously gonna be a little more quicker but idk if its worht the price difference

Are there major performance differences outside of memory between the white macbook and the 2.0ghz aluminum one?  The screens not quite as good?  Is it worth going to the aluminum one?

Hmm, it depends.

The aluminum macbooks use DDR3 memory, which is faster than the plain white macbook's DDR2 memory.  In my opinion, the DDR3 is a gimmick because you can only realize its power when it's matched with a Core i7 processor, which is not available in a laptop just yet.

I would bite the bullet on CPU speed and get the basic aluminum macbook (you won't notice a difference between 2.0 and 2.13 ghz (another gimmick if you ask me)).  I would upgrade to 4 gigs of ram right off the bat, because Mac users love to have a million things open, you won't notice slowdowns with that much ram.  The HD space is up to you, if you like to edit movies, have a lot of music/videos/pictures, I would consider the 250 GB hard drive.  With those options selected, you will have a nice machine that could take you through school and then some.

In the end you will have-

-Aluminium body for durability and style
-2.0ghz CPU, it will be enough to take care of your needs, especially when you compare it to the 'top-end' 2.2ghz CPU
-4gb ram, so you can have a ton of stuff running all at once
-250gb HDD, with obviously more storage than 160gb, but the bang-for-buck ratio would go down if you got the 320gb HDD
-Grand total

* grand total would be less than $1500

buy one used on ebay.

i got mine for 999 and it came with a new 320 gig hardrive and a bunch of other stuff

Yeah i would honestly go with the lowest end macbook (unibody version) but add ram when you buy it (either directly installed from apple or buy your own for cheaper, and not that hard to install)

They just updated the specs on the white macbook.

Just get the basic aluminum macbook, you won't need anything more. Don't bother with a RAM upgrade either, I have the 2 ghz with 2 gigs ram, and it runs incredibly well. Extra RAM would probably be a waste of your money if you don't know too much about computers or use them for anything too heavy.

final cut is the best program for video editing that i have ever used (in my opninion, theres going to be discrepincy on this)
