but im about to buy my first skis and need advice
5'11
200lbs

aggresive skier, mostly park, 75% rails 25% jumps, no pipe
im looking at
Line Anthems
Moment Jibs

Suggestions? Pro V Con?
No afterbangs please, i already tried em, and hated em

anthems would probably be a little bit soft for you

but, what's the biggest jump you'll be sending. if it's only 30 feet or so, anthems would be perfect. if it's 60... probably not

haha ive made several threads about it...

im bit worried about the Anthems, cuz apparently they have trouble holding wax, and when i demoed em they were pretty slow

prolly lik 45ft max

If you ski mostly park i would reccomend maybe some Amplids, there so smooth on rails and gnarly on jumps, only problem is there park ONLY but they are good

if your really hitting that many rails you might wanna look into buying this past years invaders they are selling for super cheap on sierraskis.com right now.

but anthems would be awesome too, like people have said fat skis=sex on rails. the more versatile/durable one id have to say go with the anthem.

^ solid advice right here! didn't you just make a thread asking about anthems, titled "how are octolands" ??

anyways... i'm about your size and skied on last year's 178 anthems and they were perfect. carved well, awesome in the park (didn't hit anything over 30 feet), and all in all a super fun ski all around the mt. didn't really have any durability issues, although i only had them for about 20 days. i heard they get a lil bit softer once you brake'em in but i never felt that... maybe someone who's been on them longer than me can elaborate on this.

I didnt like them either.

They seemed rather unresponsive and dead. 

I only had about 5 runs on them, but yeah, kitteh was not amused.


He should also check out the AR6???

My invaders are park ONLY but i rode them all mountain with no problems. of course its easier with an all mountain ski to ski the steep and deep pow but my invaders held their own.

with your weight anthems may feel a bit squirly on jumps. i think jibs would be better. they are stiffer, longer, lighter, and crazy poppy. theyd be great for spins on/off/sw-ups on rails.

good call. They are pretty stiff and killer on jumps and rails. Or I've heard good things about extremes, they are stiff enough to support you but soft enough to butter onto rails some.

don't take this question badly urbanjib, but how do you not own a pair of skis yet, but have 1300 posts????   It's fine if you rent, but I'm just surprised that you spend so much time on NS when it sounds like you don't get too many days in. 

And my vote is anthems.

Anthems would be perfect for just rails and small jumps since you are kinda big and they would be most likely noodles on bigger jumps.

Jibs would be perfect on jumps and rails since they are stiff and just sexy. My friend who has about the same stats as you has jibs and he loves them.

I have anthems and love them but I am skinny so I would suggest jibs if you want something that can hold up on bigger jumps but still be fun and poppy.

moments are quite expensive for skis youre just going to hit rails with.

I would suggest the anthem, I fell in love with the invader, which isn't much different.

I think you'll be pretty happy with either of the choices you mentioned.  I would like to suggest Walls though.  185 provides some good beef and they are solid everywhere.

Chronics are real stiff though.  I mean I ride Chronics, and I suppose I'm not much of a good comparison since I weigh 135, but don't you think they'd be a little too stiff for him if he's doing 75% rails?

Also, they're not symmetrical and not a full twin, which isn't so great for rails.  I think they're too jump oriented.  I'm no expert, though.

Bluehouse MRs?  Just throwing that out there.  Swing weight on those is nothing, they're mad light too.

Extremes are super stiff.  I flexed the extreme and the chronic side by side and the extreme was way stiffer.  And the chronic is pretty damn stiff.  PK was on extremes the whole time in Claim, doing big air and shit, no rails at all.  Even for someone that weighs 200 lbs, the extremes can't be right for rails.  Also not a full twin

yea no kidding you arent an expert. Chronics are a full twin tip, and so are Extremes.  And a symmetrical ski does not make rails easier at all.  the only thing that makes rails easy is commitment.  I have hit rails on invaders, chronics, and 175 straight dynastars, didn't really notice a difference beside the dynastars being non-center mounted.

soft skis wont matter a ton to you get anthems

but idk lines arent extremely durable

but get the anthems it doesnt matter unless ur gonna be skiing woods and stuff a lot

At your size a super soft 178? symmetrical ski is going to be useless on anything but a rail.

ok to answer everyones questions

i moved from Cali, to CT, and then to GA....

i started skiing at 3, and skied a ton, but didnt get into park till bout 3 years ago...when i moved to ATL

i have a pair of Head Mojos, but i just realized they are 161s or some equivalent, and have rental bindings on em

i got switch on-2offs, and a ton of other stuff and realized its time to get some new skis...

I get to ski 10 days a year, and i spend the entire day skiing everyday i get too...

i dont have boots, so my summer setup is just cilling until then

so im getting some new skis, cuz i recently got a car, and i can get up to a resort in NC now

I'm thinkin I take back my vote for anthems, addict pros maybe? I'm not sure about their durability but at your size they would be stiff enough and symmetrical if you say 75% rails. Otherwise extremes would be something to look at too. Nordica has a stiff symmetrical twin next year too, it looks sick.

Just spitballing things but,
Reno rockers?
There dope on rails,
super light,
Seem super soft because of the rocker,
But still able to hold up the 170 pounds on 60footers.
(riding 171 keep that in mind)
And there fat like the anthems,
Seems like the perfect inbetween ski to me.
But thats just my two cents.
