really need a new mp3 player.  was looking at getting the ipod nano 8gb 4th gen but have heard that they break especially since ill be mainly using it for riding with need something strong.

any ideas? k+

for riding get a shuffle

for normal use, get a zune, fuck ipods. if youre going in the zune direction, hold off until after e3, there is supposed to be a huge announcement.

creative zen ftw! - I own a zen 4gig and a zen mosaic 8gig,

i love them both, they can really take quite a beating (i once left mine outside on the table during a thunderstorm, next morning, picked it up, left it to dry and it still worked) and they are very reliable and have great battery life....

+ imho theyre more compact then ipods, maybe volume tells otherwise, but their shape fits better in your pocket...

no man, i got the ipod 4th gen 8 gig like 1 year and a half ago and its still going strong.  despite what people have said about it, i would definitely reccomend it.

i once had to have the lift operator tell me my ipod was dragging on the ground the whole way down the run

it was still playing

my only spat with nanos is that for 50$ extra or something like that you can get 10 times more gigs when buying a classic.

I've had a 30GB Creative Zen Vision M for 4 years, no problems.  I've dropped it onto the floor, out of cars, it's definitely the most reliable MP3 player.  I've heard Zunes are good too, but probably not as tough.

that was photoshopped about the xbox 360 shit. That was just an idea for what they are coming out with. they havent officially released what its going to be yet, but theres going to be something.

if he wants an apple product, then yes the shuffle is best. There are a lot of options to go with but i like apple's warranty. and itunes is so simple to deal with.

Get some iRiver or creative- they won't break down even if you wash it in washing mashine.. i had my creative in my pocket wile washing, and it stiil work :D

thats what i detest about ipods, sure itunes is easy to work with, but you cant put music on your mp3 player without it! what a load of bull.. then i heard with the new ipods you cant even put music on it if its not your specific itunes on your specific computer??  if thats true then ipods are horrid. and the fact that if you want to put music on it from another opperating system you need to reformat it. i can plug my mp3 player into any computer i want, mac or pc or linux or anything else, and put music on it without any program.

Sort of correct. You need iTunes to put music on your iPod. That's just because iTunes was built primarily as a music/video/media store, THEN as a device manager. They want you to buy their music, so they lock you to iTunes. Apple makes most of its money off of the iTunes Store. It's just capitalism at its finest.

You can sync your iPod with as many as Macs or PCs as you want. You can put music that you purchase on iTunes on as many as 5 iPods/iPhones. I know so many people that have large music libraries that whenever I get bored with what's on my iPod, I can just plug in my iPod over there and snag some of their music. There's no need to reformat anything. You just import any non-iTunes downloaded tracks into your iTunes library and you're free to put it all on as many iPods as you want.

But in my opinion, Limewire 5 + iTunes + iPod touch is a combo made in heaven. Limewire 5 automatically puts your downloaded tracks into iTunes and the iPod touch has the App Store and Safari. It's a win-win: you support Apple only when you buy the device (which is arguably the best MP3 player on the market) and you are only a few clicks away from new, free music. Who wouldn't want that?

My 120 is my baby. They definitely need some better cases though. Most of the ones available suck monkey pickle.

My Zune 16 Gb is the best thing I've ever seen. Everyone rips on Zunes when they've never touched one, but it's great for riding with big playlists. If you get a Shuffle they only hold about 220 songs. I lved my Zune til the screen cracked when i dropped it :(
