Tree sap on skis

I decided there was still enough snow to pull some turns all year shit, and when i got back to the parking lot the bases of my skis were covered in shitty black stuff, like absolutely covered, and it completely covers the wax and you stick in the snow.

any ideas how to get it off? i was thinking like a wax tool like you'd use for a surfboard.

Just give 'em a waxing. When you scrape the wax you pull all of the dirt out of the base.

If that doesn't work I would try an Orange Pumice hand cleaner.

I had tree sap on my car and it was such a pain in the ass to get off, but yeah just wax and scrape and you sohuld be good.

use a warm wax(yellow) and drip it on, then iron it. then right away scrape it off. repeat till bases are clean. and this should go in the ski/binding matinence thread

its grease not tree sap, i get i all the time, take some lacquer thinner and it will take it right off, then wax them

If you want to wax it off, dont let the wax get to hot, we dont know the burningpoint of that dirt, so just let it get warm enough for hotwax to drip on, make sure not to burn any of the dirt because it could damage your bases and it can make your iron smell funny (be sure to clean iron afterwards as well)

some paint thinner, or w/e would work fine.

We used lacquer at the ski shop I used to work at, you'd be surprised how many skis we got back with sap on em.  It's also wicked cool to dip your finger tip in the lacquer and then light it on fire.

Just don't leave it lit for more then a few seconds haha. Lesson many of us learned the hard way.

do a hot scrap wax (scrap before wax cools completely) then re-wax normally

They make a pine tar remover for cross country skiing.  I'm sure that a local shop will have some.  I would go that route instead of paint thinner.  Not positive, but that stuff could dry out your bases, meaning more damage if you hit rocks next season.

if you scrub the pine in warm water then dry before you scrape and wax it may be more effective
