Bubbled Bases

I just noticed that the bases on my new Reno Rockers are bubbled under the heelpiece of my binding. Its not super dramatic (I've seen pics of much worse on this site), but it you can def see it and feel it. Normally I probably would just ski the skis until they fall apart, but I just spent 500 dollars on this setup and to notice that the shop mounted the bindigns too deep after only 2 days on them is kinda shitty. Hopefully the shop I got them at will hook me up somehow, but I'm just kinda worried.

I'm gonna call htem on tuesday after the extended weekend, what do you guys think? What do you think I should do?

don't lose your temper. don't be in their face about it. just explain the problem and ask what they can do for you. i also wouldn't ski them until you can take it in.

I feel kinda bad for the shop if they have to eat the expense of something like this, and it was the last pair that they had too, so its not like they could just replace them. (If it even came to that). The guys in the shop are super legit, and nice guys too, so I doubt it will be a problem, but I did spend a lot of money (to me) on these, so I feel something should be done.

Sounds like a screw got a little too deep. Any decent shop can fix it very easily and you wont even notice that there was ever a bubble. All they need to do is to back the screw out, put the right length screw in. Heat the base, do some tapping on the bubble with a rubber mallet, then finish it off with a nice stone grind. Good as new! Ive done it a few times for people that have skis mounted wrong at other shops.

usually a bubble in the ptex base is either a defective base / materials / delamination or more often when a ski is waxed  / ironed at too high a temp difference it expands too fast and detaches and leaves a bubble. I have seen it in old skis where water worked it's way into the wood core and the freeze thaw thing happened and the base detached. But a new ski? did they wax it ? Did they overdrill the holes? Or are the screws too long?.

If a screw went in too deep then it usually pierces thru and u should see it or catch your fingernail on it...or a plastic wax scraper shoud catch it .   A bubble means the ptex stretched a bit.

Get the shop to check it. get them to use a true bar.Let them figure out what's wrong.  U need support from the shop for either their mistake of a possible warranty submission.    Good luck.

It's from the screws going too deep. The bubbles are in the same trapezoid like pattern as the fks heelpiece, so it's obviously the screws. They are not poking through however. I would have noticed that earlier.

They said bring them in and they'll replace them if they fucked up.

sports page right? they have pretty good techs and should be able to fix it. if not they are super legit and will hook you up with replacements

Yeah. I'm sure it wont even be a problem.I'd bet they can fix it. And I hope so too, because they dont have any rockers left.

Dimples on the bases are super easy to fix,

back off the screws by half turn, then get something flat such as a wax scraper and hammer, then with a blow-dryer heat up you bases where the dimples are, keep the dryer moving and don't overheat, once you feel it is hot enough, lay the scraper flat over the dimples and bang at it with the hammer. if they are still there back them off by 1/4 turns and repeat the heat process, until they are flat

I would bring them to a shop. Worst case scnario take a razor blade and smooth out the dimple

that doesnt actually fix the problem though...

wouldnt it actually make it worse...? theres no dimple, but the base is thinner in that one spot.
