Anyone have any theories as to;
A. why wakeboarding boats hold their value so well
B. why wakeboarding boats cost 25k and up used (50-75k new)
And lets hear rants and raves about the BOATING aspect of wakeboarding. I am taking my boat out for the first time this year and I was really looking at wakeboard boats, but I was like holy hell...I can't afford that

well they have really nice wakeboard towers which are a couple grand, special props, nice soundsystems, most have ballasts, and they are really nice boats in general, but u only need one if you are really into wakeboarding, right now we have a chapparal 210 with a tower and it works perfect for wakeboarding but i think we are trading it in at the end of the year for a nice wakeboard boat cuz im getting more into that

They are expensive and they hold their value because they are a specialized, high end product. You could go buy a Lund instead of a Malibu, but that would be like getting a Kia instead of BMW. You pay for quality and exclusivity.

every nice powerboat is that expensive...its mainly because making fiberglass boat hulls takes alot of time, money/material and personal labor, the engines have alot of horsepower and special features which make them expensive, and most of the assembly of boats is done by hand. Hand labor costs alot of money

because they are specialized and very decked out, while a new top end Mastercraft Prostar 197 can run you 45K it's not nearly as complex and decked out as say a new X-star which after you factor in all the extra's and tons of time in R&D to build a hull that will produce the desired wake that you want. So basically you are paying for hand built boats that have a lot of extra's built into them like Ballast systems, all the high end lights and things etc.

Because boats are specialized, they are going to hold their value, especially when they are properly maintained and a wakeboard/waterski boat is even more specialzed then every other boat. The ski boats are similar to high end automobiles where they hold their value because of specilization you know. Inboards are more expensive.

I really don't have any rants about waterskiing except my family does not own a boat right now but I have access to a Prostar 209 so I'm not to sad about it. Because of my friends I have access to a lot of nice boats, everything from Maristars and Responses, to outbacks and two Super Air 210's. I'm still waiting to find that one friend with a TT 197 but oh well a 196 will have to do for now. I love college and all my friends having boats I can play on.
I say we rant about crew teams getting in our way and yelling at us.
