Rastafarians

So latley i have been studying Rastafarism and i seriously want to convert to one, not just because i want to smoke weed but because i really like and agree with their belifs. I was wondering if anyone knows of any religous books or teachings i can read to fully understaind the religion and be able to officaly become one. I am currently reading and studying the Holy Pity. I hope you know they have some ridiculous beliefs. They believe that Hailie Selassie is like a God or something.  I think he was the first president of Ethiopia.  Do you believe that Hailie Selassie is a God?

Also most of them are strict vegetarians/vegans.  And they are strongly opposed to drinking alcohol.  Are you willing to give up alcohol?

And I think most 'rastafarians' are actually christain, or ethiopian christian.

It's called Ital I think and its almost like vegitarian but I think they do eat fish or some meat, and theres some random shit they don't eat.

This. You can believe similar things without being a rasta. Not everyone who believes in peace and all that good shit rastas believe in aren't rastas. I guess what I'm saying is to learn about all different religions and don't put yourself into one or another, but just have your own beliefs incorporated from other religions.

i thought the same way as u for a while and i thought i wanted to as well.  its a tough religion to practice seriously.  i stand by some of there beliefs as well but being a full on rasta is a little over whelming and super tough.  I don't practice rastafari but theres a few aspects of that religion i base my life on, like the spirital and medical use of canabis, concept of zion and babylon, and One Earth One Love, but im not a so called "rasta"

holy shit, sometimes NS really needs to take a chill pill...
you guys do not need to get so angry about someone starting a thread like this guy did, he didn't even say he is actually going to change to the religion he just wants to know more info before making his decision. If you are going to flip out with such negativity about a subject like religion then don't even bother going into a thread about it, the only way he, or anyone else, can learn more about religions, and facts like they don't like the 'ism' thing can only be found out by learning it. just because he wasn't born with that knowledge doesn't mean you should totally flip out.

GAHHH NSG pisses me off sometimes...

hahaha kidding. I dont think people are flipping out too much at all, its more like the fact that everyone is super into rasta and all that jazz, and a small amount of people actually understand it. maybe he could research it first before asking NS? NS is the last place I would ask about rastafari

hes right on the money here
 a huge part of rastafari is rejecting western culture and its concept of everything in excess.  That's one of the reasons i didnt convert when i was thinking about it.  i still believe in the concept of babylon and zion but in a more inward or personal way.  for example, to me Zion is being out in the mountains hiking among the peaks or riding the park chair zoned in and bumping some reggae music, where as Babylon is the big citys like Vancouver or Victoria where people judge me based on looks only and so forth.  so what im trying to say is u can still believe in Zion and Babylon but in a more personal way.
