Replying to Fired

I walked into my job at the Mongolian Grill today ready to flip some meat and my boss walks up to me and asks " where were you this morning"? To which I replied "shit was I supposed to work at 10? I thought
I worked at 4". He told me I was fired and I went home. I was thinking about it though and my work never called me this morning to see where I was or anything which is very strange to me because every job I've ever had if I don't show up they call me and ask me whats up. So I went back down to my work to talk to them about it and the guy just told me "tough luck I should have been there" so I asked "Didn't you need me on grill this morning? why wouldn't you call me if I don't show up" to which he responded "whatever".

I was wondering if anything like this has ever happened to any of you guys ie. having your work not call you when you don't show up? And I'm not bitching about being fired I know it's my responsibility to know the schedule but  they fired me because I didn't show up, but I would have been right there if they just would have called me.
