Longboards with dips- good or bad?

k so i am in calgary/ banff for my 16 birthday this long weekend, and am absolutely gonna buy a longboard here to bring back to toronto with me. SO big question is, are the pros / cons of longboards with dips? they look cooler, but i have ZERO clue on the entire subject im a noob. (yeah my first board btw). ***i dont know if its called a dip but it makes a -_- shape vs ---
- what are some good shops where i could get a nice one for cheap (calgary or banff area)
- and what are your opinions for board types for a beginner like me?

BY THE WAY i did search bar but didnt find anything about ones with dips, i apolligize greatly if this has been discussed.

I think you mean drop deck boards? They're good for DH, more stable I guess and you can lock your feet in pretty well. If you're gonna be bombing hills then go for it, otherwise you don't really need it. I think.

If I'm wrong somebody correct me..

just buy your board in toronto, there are many good shops to buy good long boards here

ya, they are made for dh. the drop decks are good for it because they are lower to the ground (lower center of gravity= more stability= less speed wobbles). also they can be good for pushing because your foot that is on the board is lower to the ground than on regular board. I'm not really sure why, then, cruiser boards are not drop deck, but i know most of the aren't. Basically its going to be a dh board if it is a drop deck, which will also usually be stiff.

sorry, but i can not help you on local shops around there, but i would recommend ordering online to find the best deals if possible!

ok well i only have one longboard but heres what i kno... mine goes like this _-_ if thats the diagram you wanna see... it has mad good flex and rides really smooth super fun for just playing around on... basically thats what id reccomend cause i love mine

do you know what company makes this board or the model? drop boards are usually made for DH, but more and more people are getting them for all around cruising, and they are a blast to ride around on because they are more stable, and pushing/footbraking on them is soooo easy.  there are a few drop boards out there that i would not go near since this is your first board, but there are some that are more forgiving for a newb to boarding...find out what the board is called before you get it and post it up here before you buy it because you dont want to be stuck with a drop deck that is too advanced for you.

they're lots of fun for going fast, but not necessary for cruising. I ALWAYS choose my flexy no-camber carver for commuting and carving and only use my evo (dropped board) for freeriding and dh.
You don't get the same turning/leverage on a drop deck.

ontario is not made for them at all, just get a stiffer commute board, youll like it, trust

i dont think he meant a drop deck, i think he meant the board has concave(on the edges)? versus just a flat top...

if its a dh board, you dont need that in toronto, but if it just has concave, then thats ok, my board has that tooo

      if you really want drop deck then get a landyatchz spud. but if you want more of an all around board go for a drop through. drop throughs are good beginner boards. if you got the money then go for a loaded dervish. if you want something more on a budget then go for the kracked skulls scimitar. the kracked skulls is a good newb board. its cheap and it's a really solid begginer all around board. there are plenty of pintails that would work if your really on a budget. look into secter 9 cosmic series they are really fun boards for crusing/sliding if you decide to start sliding.

by "dip" do you mean a dropped board (where the actual riding platform is lowered), a drop through deck (where the trucks are mounted through the board), a board with a really concave shape, or a rockered deck that kinda sags?
