So my sound card exploded...

And some really weird this are happening. Does anyone have any expainations. I have an Acer Aspire 5102WLMi.
When the sound went out, it made a cracking sound in distortion then my computer crashed. I dont have any sound anymore. I locked out the sound card through the control pannel. But now, my computer looses keyboard, mousepad and USB ports on occasions. Last night I spent an hour trying to get my computer to boot. Every time I turn it on, the screen fails to start and the computer just idles.Sometimes the speakers crackle during a failed start. After that hour the computer booted itself without changes to the settings and now works almost normally.
Other than a new computer, can someone explain what the fuck is happening and a way to fix it. None of this is because of a virus btw.

your power supply is probably fucked, same thing has happened to me before and it was because the power supply had finally gone out of commission and wasn't able to power all of the components anymore.
i got a new computer, you could probably just get a new power supply if you don't want to get a new computer.

Its an intermittent thing, sometimes my computer wont start sometime it does. I doubt its the power supply, I will consider it though. I want to avoid getting it checked by a shop, I dont feel like getting ripped off. Could it be possible that the interior is dirty?

Do you have a dedicated sound card? Or did your onboard sound just mess up. If you have a dedicated, you could move it into another open slot, and if there is dust in there, you should blow it out.
If you know anything about computers, I would just take the whole thing apart and then put it back together, except dont take the heatsink off of the CPU because I doubt you have any thermal paste around to re-install the heatsink with.
My guess is that your mobo is fried, or your psu is worn out. How old is your setup? Powersupplies are usually good for 5+ years, even in a prebuilt acer. If you have added a graphics card or extra hard drives, you could be overloading the psu, so an upgrade might be required.
Sorry that I just came up with a speculative list of shit, but I hope you find a solution.

The only thing I have is the internal sound drive. Its a realtek HD driver. Its a laptop, one of the finer thing to take appart, I can do desktops but not laptops. My acer is 3 years old. Its all original components.

Bump with update!!!!
Ok, I figured it is a loose connection to the CMOS. This problem is aggravated by the heat in my laptop. This reboot may be my last. So, here are 2 quick questions:
-Is it worth getting it fixed (new motherboard)?
-I will be getting a new laptop so any suggestions on under 1000$ with tax (15%)?

i don't know if getting a new mobo is worth it with an acer, but it's honestly up to you. there are some very nice mobos out now, but they'd probably do best in a custom setup.
i don't know shit about laptops so can't help you there.

Don't bother fixing your Acer, especially if you are getting a new laptop.
For the laptop suggestion, I have some questions for you.
-Does mobility count? Do you want light and portable, heavy and powerful, or somewhere in between?
-How long do you plan to keep the machine for?
-Do you game? If so, what do you plan on playing?
-Where do you live?
I will look around for some machines, but if you give me some info it would help narrow it down.

ok, this is my last ditch effort to save my computer: here are all my symptoms:
-Frequent freezing of window even when idle including back and colored screens
-A "screech" noise comes from the speakers at these times:
failed boot (before bios reading)
loading window xp
freezes when xp is loading
-booting failure at these times:
before BIOS reading
ACER frontpage (F2 screen)
xp loading
-1 occurence of wrong time on my clock
-random failure of USB ports when windows is running
-the USB port will work when the screeching noise is present on booting, but does not work when windows is running.
Here are my present theories:
-ground fault (explains the screeching of the speakers and the freezings)
-low CMOS battery voltage ( explains the failed booting. the ground fault may be draining the cmos battery.
What is ruled out:
-dirty laptop (clean as fuck)
-CPU fault (windows works)
-Overheating (can run quite a bit of time)
-new equipment (this laptop is 100% original and 3 years old)
So please, I need ideas. I may be the 1st person to experience all these problems at once. I have an Acer aspire 5100(5102 WLMi) +karma to all good ideas if I ever get this computer working again.

Do what I said and go on steam hardware forums and talk to them about it, they will be all over it and they really know their shit.
