Any Firefighters/ EMTs on NS????

Yeah so I was wondering if there are any firefighters or emts on newschoolers. Im 16 and I am in my local volunteer fire department, and its one of my favorite things right now. When I turn 17, I plan on taking the emt classes and becoming an emt too, and when im 18 il take firefighter 1.

anybody out there?

I've been invited to those volunteer firefighter and junior EMS things for years, but I never did it. Now I wish I did the EMS one because it could've helped a lot. Its cool your a volunteer, props man.

my advice: do it. its not as much of a time commitment as people think, except for the emt course. its so much fun and i have learned alot of cool stuff

I am a volunteer fire fighter as well, defiantly do fire its a lot of fun, as is being on a department.

My whole family are firefighters and my dad and grandparents volunteer at the ambulance core. I took the ski patrol course last year and I'll possibly continue it when I move out west.

jblaski did find this thread. I am a paid firefighter for a suburb of Madison, WI. I was EMT, but let my license go. Absolutely I love my job. There's nothing else in the world like it. I'm not claiming at all here, but just yesterday I performed CPR and shocked a guy 3 times, and it ended up saving his life (last I heard he was still alive). Definitely go for it if you're interested, maybe you won't like it, but I'm pretty sure you will.

thats such a claim man, good job!

Its nice for you to know that you saved him, i know alot of people who did cpr on people and never knew what happend to the patient.

i'm part of a volunteer thing at my school, the fire station is like 200 yds from my school so when the alarm goes off we have to run to the station and sometimes we go in the trucks other times we don't but mostly we just like deal with the hoses and shit. that being said there're rarely fires

my brother is a firefighter and paramedic. pretty sure u should go for paramedic too and maybe try to get a degree becasue he said that has helped him and should hopefully increase his chances of becoming a chief someday. He also really wants to become one of those helivacs or whatever the paramedics in helicopters are.

Right now I'm an EMT-B and a WFR(wilderness first responder). I am getting my prerequisites taken care of to get into Paramedic school and my degree is fire science to become a firefighter. If you want to get into it for a career you just need to remember the more school the better. There's a few places around here that wont even consider you unless you're a Paramedic. Good luck
