Rediculously Smart Girl

I sit next to this girl Alex in my Hon. Humanities class- she is probably the smartest person in our school. She has a full ride to MIT- placed in the international science fair- she is also loaded off of her own patents. Normally when you spread fertilizer its in a liquid form- this can run off and contaminate water supplies- what she did is put it into a capsule that dissolves slowly - that way there is less chance of run off- She sold her patent to DuPont Chemical for 500,000 and gets royalties as well. To top it off she is pretty decent looking- I think I am going to marry her-

there's some research to back that up too.  a lot of these 'genius' people are actually slightly autistic, according to what I've read.  If you know any autistic people, they're usually extremely good at a very limited field... say reading or drawing.  These 'genius' people have a 'less autism', so they have a wider range of skills but still lack a lot of the social aspects.

I have always though it to be pretty interesting, because most absurdly smart people I know are socially defunct, or as the least socially awkward, backing up what this research was showing.

haha.

I know two autistic kids. One it is barely noticeable, he just has an insane memory. And the other one well.... he has put his autistic genius obsession into anime and asian porn. Yep. But i wouldnt really call autistic people genius. They are just different. Intelligence can only take you so far when you cant look someone in the eye, know what i mean? It's more of a brain defect than natural talent.

It seems like the opposite for me. Most of the insanely smart kids I know are very socially active (involved in play, cross country, baseball, etc). The valedictorian(sp?) last year from our school went to Harvard on a full ride for baseball.

That's what the research was showing.  the autistic people still have around the same brain function normal people do, it's just focused in one area.  The 'geniuses' were the in between people, who had it focused mostly in one area, but more in the 'normal' areas than 'autistic' people, who have nearly all of their brain function focused in only one area.

It was a somewhat controversial paper so I know not everyone agreed with it, but from my interaction with autistic and 'gifted' people, it made perfect sense to me.

^ True. The autistic people who are extremely gifted in a limited field, like you said reading, drawing, even playing an instrument, are in a group call Cevants (I'm not sure how you spell it)

Though incredibly talented, most of these people are socially inept.

Haha.  My ex goes to Georgetown and speaks 4 languages (Polish, French, German, Russian).  Plus she's gorgeous and a dancer.  We're still really tight (She's like in love with me).  So if I don't get into a good grad school thats my back up plan.
