the article basically states, that although Obama has publicly expressed his views that legalizing MJ won't  help the country , even though most evidence points to the contrary. He has stated that he will not use the federal gov't (dea) to prosecute those that are not in violation of BOTH state and federal law. What this means medical patients can not be put in jail if thier state allows medical use, since they are only in violation of the Federal law, and not BOTH.  This also means if a state, lets say cali, or, wa, co legalizes recreational use the feds couldn't do much about it.  I have always loved the idea of letting the states decide thier own fate.  If you don't like the rules you are free to leave (which is a  lot easier to jump state, then it is to jump country)

When california legalized it a bunch of southern legislatures issued a statement saying that even though they didn't agree with legalization they respected the states right to make such a decision.

alcohol is most definitely not the worse of the two.  Wine has been used in religious practices as symbolizing the Blood of Jesus Christ for a couple thousands of years.  Red wine has also shown to improve immunity and prevent heart disease over a long time.  People under 21 though should NOOOOT drink.  Could you imagine getting a DUI at like 17? lol  I think i'd kill myself LOL

Smoking 1 weed cigarette is basicall the equivalent of smoking like 5 tobacco cigarettes.  Also, the 'health' benefits for weed have not been proven at all.  Show me some proof that marijuana works.  Go on show me!  Otherwise stop with the propaganda about how smoking weed is good for you!  i've seen people in high school become nothing but lazy bums because of it

Alright, I knew this would  happen.  If you read the post I made earlier (not the last one but the one before that), I already acknowledge that this is basically a biased message board against trying to argue different opinions.  The facts are out there, like I have stated, but I just don't know if I feel like bothering when so many people are going to attack and criticize my beliefs (backed by facts).  Seems kind of obvious to me lol

weed has been used in many religions for thousands of years, way before the time of christ
red wine has been shown to have health benefits when not used to excess. But what happens when you drink to much? you are going to the hospital to get your stomach pumped. People die from alcohol every day. no one has died from weed since recorded history.
drinking alcohol is essentially poisoning yourself in controlled amounts.
The damage that alcohol does to your body over time is ridiculous and the health problems that are associated with it are just as bad, I am talking both physically and mentally.

Weed has also been used in the past for medical purposes to treat various ailments. there are modern day studies that agree with its use medically. if there wasn't then it would not be legal already for medical uses. I have crohn's disease and smoking weed helps me with many of the symptoms that i have to deal with on a regular basis.

Cannabis has been used far longer than alcohol. Ancient China has been documented in using it as far back as 4500 BC. They used it medicinally, recreationally, and even used the fibers to make products.

Also those studies about wine being so great are just that, studies. But you should also know their are hundreds of studies on the benefits of marijuana. The government just refuses to acknowledge them I guess. There have been studies to show that marijuana slows (and in some cases reverse) the growth of cancer cells. So please don't say there aren't studies praising the benefits of marijuana use.

And you give the argument that you get the equivalent of 5 cigarettes in one joint. I'd love to see your proof because marijuana has none of the terrible chemicals in it like cigarettes do. Also do you realize that marijuana can be consumed in so many ways. Personally I use a vaporizer more than anything. I also like to cook with my cannabis. Vary rarely will I actually "smoke" marijuana.

Also cannabis has really been used all over the world up until the early 1900's. There have been queens to use it to relieve menstrual cramps. Everyday people used it as almost a cure all. The oil made from cannabis was in almost every pharmacy.

If you knew the history of marijuana prohibition you'd know that there was absolutely no valid reason why it was made illegal in the first place. It was made illegal due to racial bigotry and smear campaigns in newspapers from the deciduous trees industry.

Seriously, the reasons Harry J. Anslinger gave for making marijuana illegal were ludicrous. He told everyone that marijuana made you go crazy and caused people to kill themselves or family members. Another huge argument he made was that marijuana caused white women to seek relationships with black men. Or that marijuana will turn you in to a communist.

And to your "people will become lazy" argument. Just because a person is lazy and smokes weed doesn't mean the marijuana caused the laziness. Those people were going to be lazy and unproductive either way. Of the people I know who smoke and smoke with regularly, most are very motivated people with very good grades in school. And most of the time we won't smoke and just watch tv. We'll go outside and enjoy the outdoors or talk existentially. Please tell me you don't think those are bad things do you?

I realize all you've ever known about marijuana stems from lies put out by anti-drug councils. Practically everything they say is either a flat out lie or completely taken out of context.

Hell, did you know our own President Nixon funded a committee just to analyze the nations problem with marijuana? You want to know the conclusions the committee came up with? That marijuana poses no problem to the american people, is about as harmful as tobacco or alcohol, and should be legalized. But the government completely ignored the findings again, for no good reason.

There are just a ridiculous amount of studies saying marijuana is no more harmful than drinking and I honestly don't get why people choose to ignore them and repeat falsehoods. I like to relax after work/school by making a nice cup of herbal tea and smoking a joint. Am I really worse than the man who chooses to relax with a beer?
