Why is skiing so"hard"?

Why does there have to be gun-shots in every edit?
I was just thinking this question, fairly pointless thread but really why? and when did this enter into skiing?
I am not trying to start a hate thread just a discussion.

because skiing isnt creative. seriously, dressing gangster is the easiest thing to do to look cool, people dont have their own style's. everyone tries to be like wallisch or do retarded afterbang like brogan, and its gotten to a point where if your not one of those uncreative thug kids your not cool, so everyone does it. plus the gangster style is the easiest to have, you just need big as fuck clothing and stiff style and there ya go.
gangster edits are easiest to make, rap beats are sooooo easy to edit to, all you need are 10 ok skiing shots with thug rideaways, and a bunch of shots of skinny white kids doing the bird and hand geastures and you have an edit just like the thousands of other lil wayne ski edits on newschoolers.
sure we have some tight pants guys, but only a few, and even less who are actually creative and have their own unique style.

look at skateboarding, im pretty sure everyone would agree that its the most creative sport there is hands down. and look at all the different types of people, you have super artsy guys, hesh, rocker, gangster, 80's hip hop style guys, tight pants, oldschool, normal skaters, etc... and there is a pretty even number of them all, and they all get the same respect. so you have all these different skating styles and idea's and each one feeds off another and you get a shit ton of new and different stuff.

with skiing how many different styles are there? gangster, thug as fuck, and maybe hesh. and the only ones who get respect are the gangsters and thug as fuck guys, and the only ones people look up to are the thug as fuck.

you can go find just some random skate video online made by some ok skater kids and it will be way more entertaining than an entire level 1 movie.

so i guess why we are so hard is that we are all a bunch of stuck up rich white kids with no creativity and the only thing we know how to do is copy whats easy to copy, and thats being "hard".
the only people i can think of right now who are truly different, have their own style, and are actually pushing the sport are the nimbus crew, max hill, nyman, ian wayde, and especially garret russell. im sure there are more but i cant think of them right now.

they dont, pollard is definatly one of the most creative and awesome guys out there, but just like the thug kids, if everyone out there was just like him it would get old very fast and our sport would be boring, just like how it is now with this thug trend. pollard dresses and skis in a way that really matches his personality and attitude, which is how it should be for everyone.

i was just saying that having a shit ton of different types of people with equal respect is what makes a sport creative. notice in all those types of skaters i said "normal skaters" too.

this is true, and its what makes the few people like pollard so great, he has his own style that really nobody can copy just by wearing the right clothes and forcing your style.
and thats kinda what i was talking about, people need to find their own unique style rather than everyone trying to copy the same exact one.

skiing is hard because skiing that way is stylish and gets people more excited to ski than soft rock and tight pants (generally)

although personally i think the name of the new 4bi9 video is going a little far...
i'd kind of like to see how some of the aforementioned skiers would do if dropped in the hook they speak of...
i suspect that they'd lose their attitude quickly
i suppose it's irrelevant because the hood is far from the mountains, but it's something to think about.

i still love 4bi9 though.

i still don't get why it's such a big deal what everyone else is wearing or what their style is. i mean sure, i don't often agree with it, but whatever, if they like it that's fine with me.
personally i stick to worrying about my own style (and maybe that of the people i ride with). and just because i see some kid who's geared and skis like wallisch, it doesn't mean i'm going to assume that he isn't trying to push the sport or isn't a contributing member of the culture, especially if he's a good skier. that would be like hating on no-polers. it's not doing anything for anybody, and it doesn't do anything for me to think i'm better than somebody else just because i think i'm "unique."

i guess i just figure everyone should just chill the fuck out and not worry about whether somebody's style is the same or different or whether they ski naked or not. it seems like a waste of time because i doubt that many people are shallow enough to change their gear or their style just because some NSers think it's lame. i sure as hell know i wouldn't.

heres why:

dumont does ridiculous tricks, all day, and gets fucking hated on like crazy.

he drops ONE EDIT that has the requisite thuggery(biggy, gunshots, afterbang) and everyone is like "oh man this guys not so bad" "oh im really impressed with simons skiing now".

THATS why everybody acts hard. because everybody else likes it, so if you act really hard, people will jack off to your edits, then they will act hard to be like you, and you can jack off to their edits, then everybody busts a nut and some gunshots and nobody gets laid. skiing in a nutshell.

what do you mean "kind of a joke THESE days?" I wasnt sure that park skiing ever really gained enough respect from people outside the movement to actually loose it...plus i feel like for people outside the movement, respecti s at an alltime high. when was the last time that there was even a chance for a park skiing even in the olympics?

and also, hasnt skateboarding, snowboarding and skiing, always been something that is looked down upon by anyone outside of the movement?

your saying that tall tee's and what not are rediculous but your grouping all of skiing into poeple who wear this stuff...just so you know, your on ns which is primarily dominated by more park oriented riders...

its because your looking at all the younger skier's and young people are likely to do rediculous things to fit in and look like their idols no matter how rediculous.

your really not looking at all of skiing...

next issue, you speak of money...a sweatshirt is a shit ton cheaper than a jacket, so if a pro is wearing a big ass sweatshirt, then this just plays into the aformentioned. Its way easier for a kid to get enough money (whether from their rich parent's or whatever) for a sweatshirt, than a $300 new jacket, and therefore by a few good skiers (don't even try to say that wallisch and others are not good at what they do. maybe not the best all around, but best at what they do) wearing "gangsta" or "hood" clothing, its cheap so its easy for it to spread and stick.

That is a great point.  He is seen with god i mean tom wallische (sorry for spelling) and now hes cool again.  Please once again do not think i am hating on either of these two.

Another point id like to bring up, and please do not think this as starting hate, earlier in this DISCUSSION somebody brought up the fact that all are creative, but realize people some are not.  A lot of the past edits i have seen all have the same elements.... and i am not just talking skis, boots, jumps, and snow. 

I see how you can be influenced by somebody, but there is a fine line between influence and recursion.

my fault for not being organized. thats a serious statement, since on ns things like that can and are often sarcasm.

I was refering to money in response to those who made comments that skiers are all RICH, white people.
I agree with white, but disagree with rich. Isn't the general concept from which park skiing grew the be a ski bum?

also on the topic of money, what i said before is still how i feel, that its easier to follow an idol who wear's cheap clothing, such as T-Wall, than to match someone like Jon Olson whose personal goggle line is marketed to rich people who ski in vail occasionally (no hate on jon cause is genius business wise). I not necessarily arguing that it isnt rediculous, just that its easier and allows the trend to continue and grow easier.

Now to whether the "hood" movement is rediculous or bad, it clearly is rediculous from an outside perspective. But, what i was trying to say was, park skiing, like skateboarding and snowboarding, is something that has always been hated on by poeple outside the movement. for example, glenn plake and the mohawk. Or seth. How can you not look at Seth? Is his style not rediculous and crazy especially when he was the age of most up and coming park skiers, like t-wall? Clearly people, or even a mountain manager, would look at seth, especially as a kid with green hair and say "this kid is rediculous, there's no way i will grant any request he asks for." Now people look up to seth (and if you don't, you need a lesson is skiing history).

When i comes to those saying get your own style, i can also reference seth again. When seth was in his prime (if you can really say his prime ever ended) people wanted to be like him, INCLUDING the bright and rediculous clothing. You cannot legitimately say that mo-hawks and what not were a fad at some point in skiing. I have a poster in my room of the k-2 team riders from a while back and every single one, except maybe the female rider had one or all of the above: tatoo's, colored hair, T-SHIRT (not a ski jacket) w/ ripped off sleeves, outrageous colors, etc.

I think the bratty attitudes of good skiers ive met pisses me off more. I remember at steamboat when the junior olympics were there i wreck on a 3 my first run of the day and these 13 year old bratty little kids were trying to make fun of me in the lift line. I wanted to kill them cus they thought they were a million times cooler than me cus they dont fall doing 3s.

Anyone should dress however they want. If you're 5'6 weighing 145 wet and want to shop at the big and tall store for your big and tall tee, that's fine. Just don't be a d bag on the hill. Ski and have fun.

well back to the original topic which was more about edits and music than clothes... I don't normally listen to rap or electronica, but when i'm out shreddin it really gets me in the zone.  I think its more about the attitude and feelings that shredders get from being hard cuz feels good on the slope to me.

personally, i like the baggy style, a matter of fact i have been thinking about an xl saga suit, which i am sure most of you know is anything but slim fitting.

however, i dont like the whole 'hard' persona that comes along with it...i think its a huge over done act that skiers put on to make themselves appear cooler/more dominant/or whatever you wanna call it.

put as far as the style goes i think its getting played. but thats only due to the whole industry being trend whores, as steve had pointed out a few posts up.

without a multitude of styles the industry would be stagnant, and would push people to the snowboarding industry where it is already preceived as a more 'free' sport anyways, getting away from the 'confinments' of skiings roots...but in the same token when you go into a part and it looks like a over done look alike contest where you cant tell the difference between 10 given skiers, i think the same affect is being shown.

It's def just a park thing cuz most of those thugged out guys don't even make turns on the way down to the rails. Prob because their skiing looks so weak they just lean to one side and straight run it down the groomer... not impressive.

This is how it all happened...

Skiers used to ski and make movies and people were like, wow thats cool, and extreme (ie Glen Plake). Then a new generation came along and with them came style, part of having style is making things look easy (hence steeze). Now skiing is looking super steezy, and people see it and think wow, that is easy I could do that. So the next generation of skiers, was thinking and they fugured it out, we need it to look hard while looking easy, so they started dressing like thugz so skiing would be hard, and can still look steezy.
