Do you know the origin of the phrase "Redneck? In 1921, in West Virginia, after brutally corrupt regional law had employed thug tactics including false imprisonment, seizure of property, and murder (or simply "disappearance") upon the local mine workers to discourage labour Unions from forming, an army of nearly 13,000 workers took to the streets, meeting up with the forces of the murderous sherrif at an area known as Blair Mountain.

no its actually because of farmers who worked their fields with their heads down leading to sunburnt necks, hence the term redneck.

and to the OP why i hate meth addicted texans would have been a way more accurate title

actually no he was right it was the battle at blair mountain and they wore red bandanas, hence the term redneck.  Watch some history channel fool!!

Seriously. I live in West Virginia and my grandfather mined coal along with his father and his father and so on. So basically, the term redneck should not be used outside of appalachia because it has direct ties with the history of coal mining in the area.

it was originated by the covenanters in scotland, who rejected the anglican church, and wanted a Presbyterian church in scotland, instead. they wore red cloth around their necks to show their position...

these people migrated to ulster, and later, during the potato famine, to the southern US.


regardless of which... my definition of a redneck is somebody with a complete lack of sophistication in all regards, and tends to glorify that lack in an ignorant manner.
