so, my icons just broke... so far thats.. hmm.. 1 pair of lowriders, 2 sets of buds, and now these...



im probably going to end up buying a new set of icons (or are they called recruits?) because they look sick and i need headphones to ski with... but does anyone know any other good companies that make pretty cheap headphones that arent terrible quality? either buds or proper headphones...

I'm never going to buy another pair of skullcandy, just keep warrantying the ones I have now and have separate headphones that are actually good quality.

they say in there warrenty that no matter how they break theyll give you half off on the same pair

You have no clue how much of a hassle it is to get them warrantied sometimes. You just hope that when you send them in, they aren't forgotten about for months like a lot of people's.

he said he wanted them for skiing so he would probably have a little bit of time for them to come before he skis again.  and if they have a history of breaking you can assume they will break again so buy some new ones use those and warranty the other ones so you have extra pairs.  
    and i wasn't saying that it was the best option just throwing out an idea

i know i can warranty them... but the point of this thread was to find some headphones that arent sh*t quality and are still reasonably cheap (and look good).

no they wont.

all skullcandy's break in the same way... they just stop working in one ear... or both. its nothing to do with the actually headphone structure. theyre just shit headphones...




so can anyone recommend a substitute for skullcandy? i refuse to buy another pair.

sony makes a few good headphones for a good price...but they don't look as "cool" as skullcandy. the mdr-v150 is about $20 -$30, won't break unless you actually try to violently destroy them, and have great sound for the price.

they are called Ariel 7, I have heard good things about them and they look as sick, if not sicker than skull candy. not bad prices either.

i've tried the tanks and matadors, the tanks have great sound quality but are probably too expensive to risk skiing with, the matadors are also pretty good sound quality (better than the $20-$30 sony's i mentioned), but again, i'd be careful skiing with them because they aren't very cheap.

1 pair of T.I.'s, and 2 pair's of Icons have gone through the Skullcandy warranty. Sure it may take them a little time but it's not like they're complete assholes about it. I've called them up several times and usually the person on the other line is super chill and they just don't have the color in stock, for me it has, but they'll just say pick out a color of the line they have available right now and bam i have new headphones within 2 weeks.

yea my little sis stepped on my first pair and they broke, so i keep my newer pair off the floor now haha. i have landed on my head with them on though, and they haven't broke. the 6 foot long cord can be a bit of a hassle sometimes, but it's definitely worth it most of the time.

if you want buds, get some V-modas

They have the Bass Freq which are cheap and have a sick base and sound.

Then they have the Vibe, which i have. They are expensive, but i got them pretty cheap on ebay (brand new). The sound is AMAZING and the bass is sick and they are not made of plastic so they are very tough. also, some of them have a cloth wire, like mine, that prevents it from tangling and breaking like the normal rubber wire covers do

just buy some nice sony ear buds, great sound and not to easy to break. I have had them dropped in a puddle and they still work.

umm.. i dont know what the fuck all of you are doing with your headphones, i thought i treat mine like crap throwing them around falling and having them pretymuch be crunched under me... but i have

one pair of icon's been working for 2 or 3 years now. same with my recruits, same with my TI's and my GI's..

i actually lost my recruits for almost a year in my garage under a bunch of heavy shit and they still work minty..

im on my 3rd pair of smokin buds
and 2nd (but technically 3rd) pair of lowrideres.

1st pair of smokin buds i bought, i warrantied them when i lost all the ear pieces and was actually surprised i didnt just get the 50% off coupon. warrantied them because i liked the sound.
2nd pair of smokin buds, i stepped on them while running because they fell out of my ear.
warrantied those just to have another pair. losing interest in both sound and comfort
3rd pair. i could probably warranty these now, but why bother...

1st pair of lowriders- the jack was messed up, if i twisted it, the sound would be much fainter in one ear. warrantied them. took forever to get them.
2nd pair. didnt even take them out of the package. they sent me metallic blue. i asked for black. i would rock pink or purple. but this color is just downright crap. sent them back. have not recieved my black ones yet... its only been a week though.

Is it reasonable to expect any headphones/earbuds to not break when you're riding with them? I've lost/broken quite a few sets myself while skiing, but i mean we're skiing, and if we fall with them on we can half expect any set of phones to break.

Now if they broke on you while you were in your bed listing to them that's another story.

Every pair of skullcandy headphones I have ever owned I have blown out within a week. 2 Pairs of smokin buds and 1 FMJ. Honestly, my 5$ westjet headphones lasted longer (5 months.) Skullcandy makes shit headphones.

i have had: 4 skullcrushers and 1 pair of icons. they are sick headphones tho, bad quality, but stylish and sufficient for my use mostly because of their sick warranty. i also really like their style because they have such a wide variety of over-the-head headphones. I would rather share those than earbuds for sure, the in ear thing is just a little gross. so keep up the good work skullcandy, but make them more durable/ high quality in general please!
