JD..I must agree that you are one of the truly intelligent people who post on this site, one who has actually put a great deal of thought into this debate, as opposed to many of those who spout useless drivel. However, when you stated that only 'creationist preachers' require their followers to have faith, I belive you are mistaken. Here's why.
In order for soemthing to be true science, it must be able to be proven by the scientific method, proven by repeated experiments. (Eg: law of gravity, drop something 100 times, it always falls down, never up) therefore, Gravity is a law, proven by science.
However, ORIGINS IS NOT TRUE SCIENCE! Because of the massive spans of time required for evolutuion to purportedly occuur, it has not been and never will be proven as a law. There has neve been any proven cases of one being eveolving into another. Sure, there are cases like the pepper moths changing colour and such, but that is micro evolution, variation WITHIN a species, which has been proven, therefore is science. BUT MACRO EVOLUTION (the changing of one existing species into another or the emergence of a new species) cannot be definitivly proven!
Sure there are all the supposed 'missing links' but one must realize that evolutionary scientists interpret these findings with a bias. THey MUST find a missing link in order to validate their theory, therefore they are biased, a VERY DANGEROUS thing for a scientist to have! That being said, a true transitional species has never been found, every supposed missing link has caused so much controvery its hard to put any credibility in any of them.
So heres my real point: Origins are a matter of faith, NOT SCIENCE. One must have faith in something (the big bang, whatever theory you choose to believe) as the catalyst for the evolutionary process. I find it much easier to have faith in God created all the order we see in the world today, who created everythign with a plan, rather than a series of millions and billions iof random mutations somehow causing all the well ordered species.
I just can't understand the whole premise of evolution! It goes against the second law of Thermodynamics, a system left to its self tends to disorder, not greater order! Study statistics. The odds of enough genetic mutations occursing ro form the human eye alone are astrnomical, let alone all the other systems in the human body, for all mutation must occur at once. An eye cannot form gradually, for if it is not fully functional, it does not aid the organism, so why would the trait continue to develop?? An eye that is fully formed but missing even one ocular nerve is usless, and would not be passed on, becasue it has no benefit!
So in conclusion, I want to stress my point: ORIGINS IS A MATTER MORE OF FAITH,THAN OF SCIENCE
I prefer to put may faith in God than in a freak series of billions of accidents over millions of years. Think for yourselves, keep an open mind, and relaize that everyone you talk to on this issue has a bias. Bias is very dangerous to a scientist for it colors his view of his scientific findings.
Well I have been very verbose in this post, but it is soemthing that I feel very strongly about..I think it takes more faith to belive in evolutuion than to belive in creation..think about it!
