what happened was the game went to ot and the pens won. it was a great ot. back and forth a bunch. btw detroit got pwned by the refs in yesterdays game. the ref called the penalty that led to anaheims goal then blew the whistle early on detroits goal. but im sick of detroit anyway. boston is my team now. they havent won in it forever plus they are a sick team. the caps are tight tho and the pens are cool. fuckin wild .... now our coach quit too.
Pittsburgh looked absolutely terrible in the first period with one major exception: Crosby carried them on his back, every time he got the puck he was taking on 2 guys and beating them, making big plays out of nothing. He had no support. Then in the 2nd the third and fourth lines for the Pens woke up, and from then on they took over. That's real leadership, and it's the one thing Ovechkin doesn't have that Crosby does. Ovy can charge up his team by doing ridiculous things and beating 3 guys at a time, but I have never seen him take a team that was playing poorly and lead them by example and by work ethic. Not by being a great hockey player, but by having enough pure will to just keep going no matter what, when no one else is helping. I doubted Crosby as a captain before but now I don't. He put them in a position to win, then Malkin basically won them the game, as it looked like he could pretty much do anything he wanted with the puck once the Caps were on their heels.
word. mostly agree with you. but i still favor Ovy a little. no offense if you like crosby a lot or anything but he is kind of a puss. like not about giving up or anything. but he just appears to me to be afraid to block shots and afraid to hit people. and he gets mad and wants a penalty when people hit him. but i do think he is an amazing player. Ovy just schools the D and the goalie. i think crosby is actually becoming less pusss tho. he just has to get used to the nhl. i think ovy already knew what to expect.
You rarely saw Steve Yzerman hit anyone, but he was the best leader ever to play the game and one of the best if not the single best two-way forward of his time (maybe ever), from the mid 90s along with Fedorov on he played defense better than most defensemen. That is something Ovechkin has that a lot of offensive talents don't, but it doesn't make you a wimp just because it's not part of your game. Gretzky was always bugging refs to try to get calls, in fact most star players do, because it works; later in the game you often get one. Didn't see Gretz block a lot of shots either.
Speaking of Fedorov by the way, I'd like to see Boudreau wise up and put the guy on the left point on the PP. He's maybe the only guy on the team with a bigger bomb than Ovechkin if you give him a chance back there, because his shot has that weight to it as well that some players (mostly D-men) are able to get. Ovechkin can get it off faster than anybody, I'd rather see him taking shots from the top of the circle a la Brett Hull, or like Malkin did tonight walking off the half boards for the 2-1 goal.
I'm so glad malkin woke up and played incredible! Hopefully the pens can continue this momentum into game 4! I was loving it when malkin went between his legs past ovechkin too... i cant stand ovechkin one bit.
i dont actually really expect to see star players block shot often or ever so ya. that doesnt make hime a puss not sure why i said that. i jsut wish he would hit more. and your right about the whining to ref but i think its kinda lame if it was a clean hit cuz then the ref is more likely to make a bad call later in the game. but whatev its all part of it.
And to the post above me, i realize how that sounded. dumb. but like what i meant was that crosby just came in and blew up and like hes the best player around. he gets mad when people hit him and shit but i realize that everyone gets mad at that but he whines about it more often. anyway what i said didnt make any sense...so, no, i wasnt serious.
I will say one thing, the pens shouldn't have mad Sid the captain so early in his career last year, i think it was a little to early... that being said he has shown that he clearly wants the role and is growing into very well.
To bad i get like no playoff coverage here at school. BOOOOOOOOOOO
terrible luck. puck deflected off the defenders leg and ricochets off the goalies shoulder and in. he had it tracked in his glove till it went off the defenders leg. i feel bad for him
What are you talking about. That sounds like every 2nd goal scored in the NHL. In overtime it's always a weird bounce or fluke play that costs you. It's his own fault for freezing the puck when he had 2 d-men next to him and giving the Pens an offensive zone face off, he could just as easily have played it. It's his forwards' fault for losing the draw cleanly rather than at least scrambling it, and the d-men for failing to get out in time to block the shot or deflect it out of play. Lots of reasons that went in, but mainly Letang shot it really hard and got it through to the net. There's always a little luck involved... but luck is only one of many reasons they lost on that play.
why cant you stand ovechkin? hes one of the leagues more creative and offensively skilled players. and he doesnt talk up much game. the only things he ever says about other players is when they ask him about it first(they being the reporters). And he highly respects a lot of the guys in the league. just curious why you cant stand him. crosby has more of a personality as far as tv and coverage goes. ovy just likes to let his game do his talking.
