Is this a suspendable offence?

So a couple of schools in our county have gotten out with the Swine Flu. So, Sunday evening my friend posted that he had the swine flu as his status on Facebook (he legit thought he had it, but it turned out just to be a bad sinus infection). So someone either snitched on him or the school looked at his Facebook, and come Monday morning the administrators called him to the office and told him they have suspended him out of school for 2 days. I think this is bullshit for the school to do this, what does NS think?

If he was just BS'ing the school with his status, then id say its fine to suspend him,

but since he actually had a sinus infection, I'd say its crap that the school suspended him.

The administration doesn't care, no matter what your friend says he's not going to get out of it. 700 schools closed nation wide today because of it. It's getting old.

its the flu that seems to have originated in mexico and many people died. now, its a big deal that they died, but the thing is, they are mexican and they dont have health care like we do. thats why. no one is dying in america except a mexican baby, from mexico, visiting texas.

he deserves to be suspended. he's real sick and he goes to facebook to let all his friends know he's some paranoid pussy who is probably convinced by all medicine commericials that he has ALL THE SYMPTOMS OMGG. instead of wanting your facebook buddies to feel bad for you, why not go to the doctor? since when is facebook a qualified hospital?

And this is worthy of suspension how? You can't suspend people for personality flaws. The schools are just as foolish for believing something like this. Hell, they shouldn't even be allowed to look at facebook pages, let alone suspend someone for exercising their 1st amendment rights to express what they feel.

On the contrary I am going to say it's a suspendable offense, because people in America are treating the swine flu as a pandemic. School districts are being shut down for weeks at a time do to one case, or even one "suspected case." What else do schools get closed down for mainly threats of violence.That status could have caused hysteria to an extent, because some people take the every detail of the media as truth.
 Moral of the story, don't live through facebook and keep shit on the DL. Your friend did an idiotic thing, but if he was really sick he should be able to get out of it pretty easily.

if he had the apparently not such a big deal swine flu, yeah i guess hed have to, but if it was an honest mistake, the school cant even really tell you to go home when you have a mild fever or the sniffles especially if theyl ride your ass for skipping.

yea it's pretty stupid when schools interfere with stuff that doesn't really have anything to do with them, even if it did scare other students. the actual thing they are punishing him for doesn't have anything to do with school

p.s. your friend is an idiot though and needs to calm the shit down. it's so annoying how scared people are.

Actually in this case his 1st amendment rights weren't violated.  It's a complicated process to determine whether or not this is true, but I think not.

He is being punished for something he wrote in which he believed was true. The authority that presided over him punished him because what he wrote and felt scared them, and possibly could have put them at risk.

swine flu is a joke, theres only been 31 deaths and theres a 1/100 chance that you'll die of it...if u look at the SARS epidemic a few years back there was a 1/10 chance you would die, but nobody except japan seemed to panic about SARS

Facebook can be set to private though, I would be interested to see how the school saw his postings. If it was set on public then it is not an invasion of privacy but if an administrator had one of his friends log in to see the kids account then that would be different.

I am pretty sure I set my Facebook status to say that I had Swine Flu jokingly back about a week ago. It is stupid to and I don't think they are allowed to suspend you from school unless your Facebook status is something like "Going to kill principle tomorrow" or just something that indicate violent actions towards an individual or a group of people.

you all need to get over it, their is no privacy on the fucking internet!! doesn't mean he should of got suspended but fuck it, a few days off. high school don't mean shit about anything

This is ridiculous.

The swine flu, aka H1N1, is just like your regular, seasonal flu, only there just is no vaccine for it.

The symptoms are the same, and the recovery rate is just the same as the seasonal one as well.

The only known US person to die from it was diagnosed with a previous illness, had just had a baby, and wasn't eating right.

Seriously, even if the kid had it, all people would need to do is wash their hands and not touch their mouth, nose, eyes, etc.  That and stay clear of sneezes.  No biggie, we do it often enough for others with the cold.

I believe the school majorly overreacted to this, and whoever stalked his facebook just to tell the school such a thing is a retarded idiot who can't take a joke, or a possibility, over a fact.
