Replying to My Short Story for School (I promise epic lulz)
my short story for honors creative writing...
The sun had just risen when Thaddeus shut the door. He hadn’t eaten breakfast and both his parents were still asleep. A Plymouth Station Wagon rattled in his driveway, his friend Michael there waiting for him inside. Thaddeus slowly but surely walked over to Michael’s car. He opened the door and was greeted by the sitting hybrid stench of marijuana and coffee. Eventually, Michael greeted him too.
“Thaddeus, you awake man?”
“Barely”, Thaddeus replied.
“Okay man, well… I got you a coffee, it tastes like shit, but we need to get awake somehow.”
“Thanks man, I appreciate it. I’m excited for today, shit’s really looking up.
“Yah man, well we gotta’ go scoop Jerry and then stop at the payphone.”
Thaddeus nodded his head. Still half a sleep, he reached over and grabbed the cup of coffee. He could feel the sensation of warmth expand and grasp his cold hand. He took a sip; the liquid instantly burned his tongue and from there dripped down his mouth. He repeated the process a few times, although he hated the taste. He stopped for a while and observed his surroundings. Everything familiar Thaddeus saw as foreign, he was not accustomed to viewing things by the light of the bright and rising early morning sun. Michael pulled into Jerry’s drive way at this point. Jerry stumbled out of his front door, giggling.
“You already light up Jerry?”
“You know it Mikey”, Jerry stupidly replied.
Jerry’s laugh and persona invigorated Thaddeus and reminded him of the great day ahead.
“Thaddeus and Jerry you guys both got your bathing suits, right?”
Both boys nodded. After driving less than a block from Jerry’s they had reached the nearest pay phone. Jerry got out; as he reached the payphone he became serious. Well not serious in the sense of serious, but serious in the sense of “Jerry serious.” This meant that Jerry held back his signature laugh, but still wore a huge grin across his face; he knew that these phone calls could make or break the day of hooky. Jerry was actually a great orator when he applied himself; he seemingly impersonated all three of the boy’s parents perfectly. He also paused in between calls, so nothing would seem too suspicious.
Before Thaddeus knew it, they were at the rope swings. The mission had been accomplished. A day of bong rips, relaxation, and adventure stared Thaddeus and his friend’s right in the face. The boys then exited the car; they stared down at the crystal clear river. The blue bird sky illuminated the picture perfect setting.
Michael being the most daring spent no time in waiting or for that matter even starting at one of the smaller swings, he climbed to a precarious branch, and grabbed onto the second highest swing there. A second past, before Thaddeus and Jerry knew it Michael was flying through the air, grasping onto the swing. At his apex he let go, dropped 15 feet, and was submerged in the azure river. Michael was a great swimmer.
A few hours had past and the boys had been continually climbing and jumping off the various swings. Thaddeus had finally braved the fourth highest swing and Jerry had been practicing back flips off the main swing. Michael had jumped off every swing… twice and done every flip known to man.
The boys had hair there fair share of adrenaline and decided to eat lunch for the day. Lunch for them meant a few gallons of Hawaiian punch and Sunny D, fattening treats, and bong rips… many bong rips.
It was Jerry’s turn in the “puff, puff, pass” cycle. The sun glistened off the glass as the boys over looked the river. If one examined the bong closely, they could see it was a piece of artwork, a prime example of an artisan’s masterpiece. Jerry opened up a new bag containing herb, he took three nuggets out and packed them into the bowl. The crystals and red hairs of the marijuana became apparent as a ray of light drew them into focus. Jerry then took the lighter, he light the bowl and sucked in. The water inside the bong bubbled and smoke rose up the barrel. Jerry then took his mouth away from the bong and covered the barrel with his hand. After a few seconds Jerry exhaled a plethora of milky smoke in the hair; his head then turned to the left and an uncontrollable laugh overcame him.
“Hey look man, it’s Yogy Bear”
It was at this point when a 500 pound Grizzly Bear emerged from the surrounding forest. Terror suddenly swept over the once euphoric climate. With a swift strike of his claw the mammoth bear ripped the bong into pieces. This godless killing machine was hungry; a hunger that could only be quenched with human flesh. All the boys jumped into the river, but Michael was the only one fast enough to out swim the beast.
Michael was the only one to survive that day. The whole car ride home he wept. He thought of his two best friends Jerry and Thaddeus, he tried his best to save them, but the grip of the bear was too strong.
From that day one Michael had a passion, a drive. He became a competitive swimmer and took out his aggression in the pool. He swam every time as if that beast were tailing him like that one god forsaken day. It was that passion, drive, and fear that led him to win 8 gold medals in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Bejing. Every bong rip from that day on was dedicated to his fallen friends, Thaddeus and Jerry.
