ok heres a question

fisheye lenses
do fish actually see out of eyes like fisheye lenses?
like is that how they see?

if so, thats really sick, but it would be so hard to like live with

this thread's pretty pointless, but i still think its badass if thats actually how they see

It would make sense because their eyes are on kind of 2 different sides of their bodies, so it would help them get the widest view possible.. maybe?

Fisheye isn't meant for big screen movies, go watch a skate video... fisheye looks good for some things and not for others, you can't just classify all good film making by what Stanley Kubrick's does...

As to the op, I have no idea... makes sense to name it like that though...

isn't it called fisheye because a fish would see anything above water as distorted as result of being underwater? I'm not sure though.

can I have some of that crack?  cause it must be damn good to make you think this shit.

seriously though, to each his own I guess... skate filmers aren't behind on anything though... fisheye just gives skating a sick feel and looks ill.  You obviously feel differently, but I know that me and a lot of other dudes agree that fisheye looks sick for skate films.

some fish eyes are pretty bubbly off of their body and fisheye lenses are pretty spherical resembling a fishes eye? maybe idk.

most of those are just wide angled if i remember right. i like wide angles.

and i should have rephrased what i said better. people who use fisheyes and make there footage look like someone stuck a toilet paper roll over top of there lens and make me squint to actually see whats going on are retarded

most of the follow cams were fish eye.

Take for example the overhead follow cam in the powder, one of the most epic shots of all time... follow cam.

Yeah, humans see the same way a fisheye works. Otherwise our perspective would be fucked. Look Straight forwards, and move a ruler from the center of your vision to the side, it gets smaller.

I'm going to disagree.  Look at the horizon, that shit isn't bent.

It's a fact that the focal length of the human eye is closest to 50mm, there is no such thing as a 50mm fish.  Sorry.

This is true to an extent. It is true on a full size 35mm sensor, but when you get into smaller sensor sizes, aka every video camera besides 35mm film or 35mm adapter for the most part, the telephoto aspect of that 50mm produces gets amplified.

Take for example the HVX. Fully zoomed in, the camera only gets to 55mm, which compared to a normal 35mm camera is about equivalent to having a 300mm lens on an slr. On a smaller handycam with 1/6" sensors, in order to get the same field of view, it would only have to use something like 24mm.

Think about how you see. Take a measure (in degrees) of how far your peripheral vision can see, then take an angle measurement from a 50mm camera lens. I think the person you quoted is more than likely talking about the fact that we have an extraordinary field of view, that is most closely comparable to a fisheye.
