Making a Time Lapse with photos.

As of right now, I have my Canon 20D on a tripod with a remote to take a picture outside, every 30 seconds. I going to do it till sunset. Anyone do this before? What is the better interval to shoot? 30 seconds should give me about 600 images. As for editing it together, Photoshop has there animation, which could work. I would use FCE and I also have iMove 08. Any suggestions or tips?

i dont know about the interval, but if i were you i'd use either fce or imovie to put it together.. just because animation in photoshop pisses me off a lot.

To figure out your interval, use this equation:

(Total Timelapse Duration in minutes x 2)/Desired Length of Shot in seconds = Interval in Seconds

So if you were going to set your camera up for 60 minutes and you wanted a 5 second finished shot, your interval would be 24 seconds.

To stitch together your photos, use Quicktime. Put all your photos in a folder. In QT select File>Open Image Sequence... and select the first shot in your folder. Select your frame rate (usually 29.97) and QT will do all the work.

i've never actually done it, but if you make a 24p timeline in FC or after effects and import the pictures with the settings to images every frame, it should work.

There's probably more to it. But thats the jist of it.

^Actually, that formula only works in North America and Japan. In Europe, you'd use a factor of 2.4 and then select 25fps as your frame rate.

Yeah, it's a pro feature. Isn't QT Pro included with FCE?

basically if it has an lcd screen it will work. the canon one is $130, ebay for $40. i love it!

For the D50, you're looking for a timer that can trigger your camera with a compatible infrared signal. I have this timer http://pclix.com. With this timer, you'd also need a compatible infrared cable (IR cable).

There's a really simple program called Camera Control Pro that acts as an intervalometer. Just connect your usb and your good to go.

I have been doing them a lot lately, i will post some up when i get time, but this is the best tutorial on the web i have found, it sucks that my canon doesn't have the built in interval shooting timer like the d200 in the video.

nice find. however, a lot of people say drag the shutter, so you dont get "blips" kinda like that bird. but hell, i learned a new thing in lightroom.
