Out of curiosity, what are your beliefs on the existence of God?

Please be precise, and try to conform to the following:
1.  Does one exist?
2.  If so, who/what is it?
3.  Said God's moral standards?
4.  Why do you believe in said deity?

basically life would be easier if there was no thought of god. Don't be scared of what happens "after". If you spend your whole life looking for the reason you are here, you won't ever be alive at all. Just live, don't be scared. When your done your done, no reflecting, so just go live.

Well, always thought there was an answer to this.

God allows bad things to occur because sometimes it's the only thing that gets through others heads.

It's a reminder.  If we all followed the Biblical 10 Commandments, I really can't see anything "bad" happening, not to speak of stuffs like natural disasters.  I'm talking about crimes against others.

Evil is everything that is NOT GOD.  What is man, though?  Isn't he given the free will to choose between God and "not God"?  In that case, you can suppose that MAN is the originator of evil.  but then again, where did man come from?  God.  in that case, you have to assume that there is a primordial evil, which is typically dubbed Satan.

Hard questions, I don't have a full concrete answer that anyone can't find more questions about.

except, humans are competitive animals...  and to be competitive one generally has to do something somewhat mean to win in competitions...  its a fact of nature and thew way humans are.

If you think about it, the whole idea of Christianity is not to "be afraid".

I mean, seriously, Jesus himself tells everyone several times to "Not be afraid".

I think the question here is, without God, why are you here?  God gave us a purpose, but without some guidance like that, there is no reason for you to be here.

Do you really like to think that you are nothing?  Why keep living then?  Why live through pain (as well as pleasure) for the end result of...shits and giggles?

What is living?  Is going about doing whatever the hell you want "living"?  What is the good life?  Getting whatever the hell you want?  Then why is it that no one ever does, and those who "do" always have something missing in their lives?  They go about their everyday actions and still feel like there is something else out there that they want.

It's a fact of life.  You can't have it all.  And even if you could, would you really want EVERYTHING?

There is a Biblical quote.  "The fool says in his heart...there is no God."

As to the explanation of this quote...it really depends on your method of thinking.
1.)  It means that you in complete and utter denial, even faced with massive amounts of evidence.
2.)  It means that the Bible is pourin' out the hate, and there can't be a "loving God".
3.)  It means that the world has lied to you since day 1, and is still trying to fog your goggles.

What most people say about these choices

On the account of choice 1:  "Show me the evidence"
                The evidence is the world and all its complexity, but of course, that's the simple version.

On the account of choice 2:  "That's right."
                Then why is it that the Bible says that no matter what, God will accept you, and loves you even in your hatin'?

On the account of choice 3:  "The world?  WTF?"
                Ask yourself, why is there such a thing as conspiracy?  Why do people lie?  Why is it that out of all big, accepted religions, Christianity is the most hated in the world?  Why is it that the religion with the most scientific support (albeit that depends on how you interpret it) is the one that everyone tries to prove wrong?  Why is it that people are always so frightened by an Evangelical, but a Mormon is just scoffed at?  Why is it that every, single, true convert to Christianity fears no man, no calamity, nothing at all?  Why is it that every true Christian is so at peace?  Why is it that every true Christian actually seems to be the one that you can depend on the most?

Why is it that the second you hear the words God, RULES, PG-13,  you get all angry?  Why not tell me off nicely?  Why make it such a big deal?

IF YOU DO NOT LIKE MY THREAD, GO FIND ANOTHER ONE. THERE ARE ENOUGH "NON-OFFENSIVE" ONES HERE TO SATISFY YOU.

Where to start. Too much in one post to address.

There is no god. There is no afterlife. This world is all we've got, and simply my existence is enough reason for me to keep on living. I rather like life.

As for quoting scripture, please dont. Not in this type of thread. You will see it as irrefutable evidence, I see it as a 2000+ year old text that has gone through many revisions and reinterpretations, and is still so vague and vast that you can pull almost anything out of there to support whatever you wish. Quotations are just going to distance the two sides to this argument even more. And in the fairness of things, I'm not going to be quoting any famous lines from atheists or what have you.

As for evidence of the existence of god, most of it has dwelled in the shadows outside of what humans had the capacity to understand. Heaven used to be in the stars at night before there were telescopes. God then existed in the complexity of life around us until we realized that all life has a common ancestor, and that organisms are not static fixtures on this planet. God's now only reasonable place is in the existance of our universe, as some sort of extracomic clockmaker who wound a dial and set all of this world into motion. Makes you wonder if in fact such a ultimate creator exists, or if instead humans just have a propensity for belief.

Christianity is asking how the earth started.  can't do that without science.

it's not like the Jews never knew stuff like tides, and that's a science too.

Science has been around for as long as man.  It just wasn't called that.

Let me ask you something.

Out of every single ancient text, I'm sure you've heard of the Iliad, Odyssey, Koran, Alexander the Great, Julius Cesare's History (dammit, can't spell)

Out of each text, the Bible (or at least the New Testament) is documented to have been written only 30 or so years after the event.

The others I mentioned not only have only a few scattered fragments of "original text", but also they were written centuries after the fact.

I think that I'd trust a gap of 30 years and several thousand fragments of originality than 100+ years and 68 frags (as in the Iliad...I'm sure it's around that many...i'd have to check for sure).

He's talking about the real scientific revolution, before that it was a smattering of greek and roman geniuses and some cracked out alchemists.

Christianity isnt asking how the earth was created. Christianity knows how the earth was created. Christianity is asking how to make modern science fit into this preconceived knowledge.

No, see the difference between the Illiad and the Bible is that we treat the Illiad as fiction with fragments of truth. The Bible is treated as irrefutable and concrete evidence.

I take that offensively, because while certain parts of the Bible are taken literally, many were written with the characteristics of a "myth." By myth I do not mean "not true," but rather, "the basic idea of the writing is true, while the facts and circumstances may not." Genesis 1 is one of these parts of the Bible. Thus, Genesis 1 is compatible with belief in God. Because it was written in the style of a "myth," we believe that evolution and the Big Bang occurred but God guided the process. Thus, the world and humans came to be.

I'm not simply trying to argue, but you can't just hate on people who are religious without taking both sides of the argument. I respect those who do not believe in God. That's up to them; I don't care, personally.

1. you cant quote the bible to support your reasoning that there is a god. that would be equivalent to me quoting a book about dragons and faries as evidence of them existing.

2. it is impossible to prove whether or not there is or is not a god. believing 100% either way is ignorant, however, there is much more reason not to believe in a god... or at least to not believe in any god portrayed in the bible/other holy books.

3. you do not know what happens after we die. asking an atheist "what happens after we die" or "how did we get here" as some sort of valid argument is retarded. you have no clue what happens when you die or how we got here, you just believe something you read in a book with no evidence to back it.

4. the meaning of life is to survive and reproduce. humans are no different from every other organism on earth, and the only thing every other organism on earth does is try and survive and reproduce.

1.  I didn't.  I just said what the bible says about those who think that God doesn't exist.

2.  There can only be 100%.  There is no middle ground.  Or at least, not in Christianity.  You believe it all, or not at all.

3.  An atheist has thier own ideas on such matters, I asked to get another opinion.  Did I give answers?  No.  I asked questions.

4.  then why on earth do we need iPod touch;s to reproduce?  Everything else is gettin on fine, but we seem to need STUFF to get it done.  (no one comment on furries, for the love of sanity).

5.  I am not a troll.  Unicorn would be better, cause at least mine's longer.
