Fashion Does more harm than good.

Me and my friend are having a fight, she's saying Fashion does more harm then good so naturally i'm saying it doesn't.  What's your opinion? What are some points I can use?

shouldnt you come up with your own opinions? if you really dont think it does more harm than good you should be able to back your argument up without asking other people for help...

I do have my own ideas I'm just a girl and I have different ideas to boys so I wanted to see what you'd say.

It's turned into a full scale debate between two halves of out team, our coach put us onto sides. I don't really believe in what i'm arguing but we have to win. We're all girls so it's a little biased we wanted to see what the guys would think.

The money that we spend on fashion (like buying the newest and designer shoes, shirts, purses, jewelry, etc.) could be used to pay off all the mortgages that have gone bad, car loans, avoid credit card debt, etc.  Also, instead of having people who are intelligent and creative spend their time on fashion, they could be used to invent green technologies and ways to make everyone's lives more efficient. 

I don't really think that we need to eliminate all fashion, but its just a thought.

Well, it does a lot more harm than good, think of all the models who've starved themselves to maintain a "beautiful" body shape. I think they all look sickly and gross.

Doubtful. But just to humor your... youre an idiot. It is not the job of people who enjoy "fashion" to spend their time fixing the mistakes of other people. Mortgages wouldn't have gone bad if people had pulled their heads out of the ground and spent their money wisely. Fashion doesn't do any harm and fashion doesn't do any good. It's something people like. Fashion itself doesn't make the world go round and it certainly didn't kill Simba's dad in the Lion King. It is what it is. If people like it then that's there choice and if people don't then they don't. But if someone does and chooses to spend their life progressing fashion, they aren't at the same time taking themselves away from "green technologies." You would be hard pressed to find a fashion genius who could create clean burning coal plant just as it would be nearly impossible to find a scientist who could design a suit like Zegna.

Get over yourself. If you don't like fashion that's your prerogative but don't pretend to yourself that the people who do are taking anything away from your life or the rest of the world.

Woah there bud... I didn't really believe what I said, I don't really think Ralph Lauren or the designers for Gucci could have invented a power source that could fuel the world economy for 1000 years.  I was just saying that instead of people paying outrageous sums of money for fashion, they could reinvest that money elsewhere and instead of pouring so much of our resources into fashion we could be improving other aspects in our world. I don't think that what I said was realistic at all... she wanted some ideas and i just threw it out there in between studying for exams.  In addition, I am a capitalistic minded person who happens to really like getting new clothes and things of that nature.  I like being fairly fashionable, as I assume most people do.  I don't think the world's problems could be solved simply by not having any fashion in the world.  Jesus.

fashion does more good than harm serioulsly did you even need to ask!? where wiykd we all be if there was no fashion? everyone owuld look the same and be dressed in gay clothes. how would there be any individuality? it would be like living in a socalist state. thats right, effing commies!

also it would suck how would you be able to find a date that dresses well etc? boys wouldn't be able to satisfy their cravings by checking out chicks wearing skinnies, they wouldn't get boners from a peak of a thong. they wouldn't get glimpses of clevage etc.

it would be really bad for the economy also. so many people would be out of work who make high quality short run items.

ok, tight pants, some skin here and there showing is great...  but paying $100 bucks for jeans with holes in them?  wtf?  my gf goes and buys regular jeans for like $20 and has me put the holes in them for her with my knife...  that sort of shit i think is gay.

Fashion, though stupid and boring. Or just funny at times, is both good and bad. It gives some people stuff to life for. Its their purpose for living. Unfortunately its also why people want to kill themselves. The whole not being able to look as beautiful in the pictures causes people to become anorexic/bulimic .

basically just make your own opinion.

consider this:

while most of the top models and their cult followers are anorexic head cases, all of those who are fashion laggers, don't give a crap about their appearance, normall have drug/drinking habits, live in government housing, are poor, or stricken by poverty, and all other aspects.

while one could argue it brings greed, child labor and other crap there are a lot of great organizations that are legit and donate money to charity and help girls find self respect and love for their appearance.

besides, haute couture is only directed to a small percentage of high class 50 yr old texan women, so then the rest of the world is more so interested in giving people a reason to feel great and have fun doing.

i.e. those companies being the commercial ones like nikita, burton, line, osiris, vans and etc.

there are far more people suffering in the rest of the world without any real relationship to fashion.
