no financial aid. a little bit of scholarship, but honestly it really only covers the cost for me to travel here. and im from illinois. we get RAPED on taxes. plus our sales tax is 10 1/4% at this point i wanna say. def at least 10%. so everything costs a ton. our gas taxes are one of the highest in the country as well i believe.

i just looked up property taxes for where i live and the county i live in has the highest property tax in the nation, 8.5% or the homeowners income

Ben do you really know taxes.. the way you are talking I'm pretty sure not. Maybe you should take some tax classes before you talk about how it will help. I have and I have talked to alot of tax professionals. I havent found one yet that agrees with you. I believe he said his dad owns a small business and if that is the case Obama's tax plan will set him back pretty good.

If Obama plans go through like he wants I see alot of small businesses going under. And in all reality why should they try hard after the tax plan goes into effect they will be able to live as well on welfare and not have to work.

no one knows the tax code perfectly. you cant. its a convoluted mess. but hes already in trouble NOW. he was screwed either way. i HIGHLY doubt obamas tax plan was designed to fuck over the small business however, considering how in general his tax breaks go toward the middle and lower class, not the rich folks.

 I'm gonna call complete BS on that. There have definitely been more instances of Obama being called a Nazi versus Bush being called a Nazi. Go type "Obama Nazi" and "Bush Nazi" into Google. there are 15 times as many hits for Obama and he has only been in office for three months versus Bushes eight years.

One of the main reasons I'm a democrat is because I see so much more "garbage" coming from the republican side, look at how many people McCain had to cut off during his campaign because they were ranting relentlessly about the "Nazi, Communist, N*****."  I have also noticed that Republicans boo a hell of a lot more than democrats, whats up with that? Way to be super negative about everything...

socialism would be if he owned all the buisness in the US. he doesnt. in fact, he has no intent of owning them permanently. the idea is that one day they will be bought back. laissez-faire, invisible hand, 100% free market economies dont work. thats been proven right here. having a little government doesnt make it socialism, it makes it not an aristocracy

Yeah I watched it, and it wasn't the classy thing to do. I guess I should have said tha the trepublicans seemed more consistent with their booing, At the RNC whenever Obama was mentioned McCain would need to stop speaking because of all the booing. If you watch the DNC, the democrats were pretty quiet at the mention of McCains name and I think it was a little more classy to see, Especially if you are a swing voter trying to decide who to vote for.

Ben- I agree that theres tons of stupidity everywhere in politics, Democrat or Republican. I just think theres a little less on the Democratic side. Shit, I probably sound like an idiot to 2/3rd's of the people on NS, lol.

True he doesn't own them all, not even close. But he does own a few extremely big companies now that deal with a lot of jobs. He pretty much owns all American car makers because there are only a few. And he hasn't accepted money back from them yet (i herd that on Sean Hanitty's radio show, i know you don't like him but the guy usually has his facts straight and if he doesn't he will admit it.)

I don't like the fact that he has bailed out a lot of auto makers and still people lost their jobs anyways at the factories. I also don't like that fact that in just 100 days of presidency there have been more than 2 million jobs lost.

Well after September 11th Americans were furious we went to go fight the War on Terror. Terrorism is extremely hard to fight since there are so many terrorist. And yes we did stay there for a lot longer than expected but you can't simply just pull out of a war. And btw April was the deadliest month in Iraq since September. I guess Obama still hasn't done anything about that, and he even sent more troops over there.

Bush i think did send a message by fighting the War on Terror, he showed the world that we will fight back and thats what needs to happen sometimes. And everyone that has gone to Iraq so far it was because that is what the signed up for! I don't get it when people think that Bush just sent soldiers over their to die for no reason. Number one all the soldiers signed up to protect our freedom as a nation and every one of them knew the consequences. Im not saying i don't care that people have died on both sides of the war, i do, it sucks that we have to fight the terrorists in the streets sometimes but thats where they are, they are cowards who wont come out and fight for themselves.

We did not go to war for a dumb reason. And those of you that think we did just look back at September 11th and all the innocent people that were killed and the terror they put on our nation that day.

What he better not do is tell the Auto makers what types of vehicles they can make. Im all for alternative fuel cars and they should be introduced to the market so the small percentage of people that want to buy them can have them. The only reason we do not have alternative energy vehicles is because the "free Market" has not dictated them to be sold yet. If Obama mandates these to be made over regular "oil" engines then we will just be subsidizing the auto industry and shooting ourself in the foot. (wait, we already are lol).

over the course of the past half century we have been becoming a more socialistic type of a country and we probably wont stop moving in that direction either.

and whats all this talk about the invisible hand and free market economies? has college corrupted you that much? here in the real work it works just fine.

Now, from my understanding, common stock owners have voting rights, and the prices fluctuate with the economy, rather than staying at a fixed rate (preferred stock.) Preferred stocks have less of a voting right (as far as electing board of directors and such) but also have a fixed rate. By turning all preferred stock into common stock, it allows for the companies frozen capital to be used, instead of having it ready to pay back the preferred stock owner's investments. If what I believe is true, it seems moderately fascist. To call Obama a socialist is ignorant. Personally, I hate him, but just because everyone is saying he's a socialist doesn't mean it's true. What I find to be the most surprising thing is how Obama is dealing with the banks under the TARP. A bunch of banks attempted to repay the money that they owed (from the Bush administration) but Obama refused to accept these funds. Therefore, he would be able to control the banks (much like FDR did.) Being a republican, of course I have a biased view (even though i believe laissez-faire is a little too conservative.) But, Obama is no socialist. Sure, he has socialist ideas, but so does everyone. Again, we'll have to wait and see how it goes. So far though, I don't like the 3.8 trillion dollars that I'm going to have to pay off.
