I Posted this in "If you think NS is crap, what can we do to fix it" but I think it needs its own thread due to the fact I didnt think it would get seen there by many people.
There was another thread called "New kid trying to figure stuff out" where no_steeze and others listed all the things a newb needs to pick up on, which was great to see all you NS oldtimers advising a newb but you cant be expected to do it for every newb - so i propose this
Could you guys set up a newb guide ( If this has already been done or talked over sorry)
For instance when I joined before christmas, it was like a month or two
before I really started posting because of the abuse on the forums
directed at newbs. After my first thread I didnt make another for a
while because of the responses i got. (I didnt mind too much as I was just getting the hang of the site, but others newbs dont)
I realise now tht its annoying to get the same threads over an over
posted by newbs. But endless hating on newbs is like shouting at
children - due to the fact they dont know any better.
IF there was a Newb guide/Handbook explaining what the searchbar does, what
questions and treads are common, trick tip guide (no more endless
discussions on bio and mistys in ski gabber), why should you go to a
Bootfitters etc etc (there's lots more examples) i no there is already
sticky threads on advice to newbs but what about as soon as they register as a member they
have an email, with everything in it together.
then hopefully newbs would have been schooled on the wrights and wrongs of newschoolers (did you see what i did there) :)
this is copied from no_steeze's post in another thread (great i might add)
make sure you lurk around before you post to try and figure out how everything works
make sure you post in the appropriate forum, i.e "which skis do i want" would go in ski gear not ski gabber
don't
take it hard when someone gives you shit, i'd say a portion of people
on here look for noobs and try to bust their balls, just don't take it
seriously
try to only post when you have something to say, don't just post to get your post count up, then you look like an idiot
inside joke expressions:
(you
should never use these, this is just so you recognize them and don't
have to ask. it annoys me when noobs repeat the old sayings when they
don't really even know the context. frankly it pisses me off when
anyone uses these)
how to get to chad's from the bottom of alta?- ski patrol blew it up
pee in her butt- don't ever say this
full tilt- don't ever say this
jea- outdated
cool story hansel- when someone says a dumb story- don't ever say this
win- when someone makes an epic post
first- when you post first in something
/thread- when someone makes a post that leaves nothing else to be said in the thread
THE GAME- you just lost, n00b
eheath is fat- kids make fun of him for his weight problem
...and many more...
on to name colors:
red names= site administrators, highest up, don't fuck with them
green names= moderators, they keep the forums clean of bewbz, profanity, retardation, and trolls
blue names= normal members who are male
pink names= females or pedophiles
next the things next to people's names are contributor status earned by donating money to the site.
they
go up in order of awesomeness, so green dollar sign is lowest, clear is
one higher, one yellow is one higher, double yellow is higher, and gold
coin is highest
you can donate to ns in the store
i was nice and typed that up for you, pay attention to it, make smart posts, and enjoy ns
Spark notes - read it all fool haha
