How to be a ski bum at Mt. Hood in the summer time
So i know you can stay in the parking lot and camp out, and pretty much use public showers at the camp grounds near the lake, but how are you supposed to pay for lift tickets? a seasons pass is like 800 dollars. Can you just hike to the park everyday or what.
I can't really contribute, but a friend and I will be up there for awhile sleeping in the van. If your there the whole summer maybe its possible to be a liftee or something?
if you want to ski trying getting a job there... doing anything. season pass with be close to 900. hiking depending on snow/rocks might take up to 30min to an hr from the parking lot.
id say work lifts or something at just enough hrs to get a pass, and youll have cash for food and stuff then too. i worked fulltime at my mtn this winter and got 2 days a week to ski, but some ppl only work like 2 or 3 days a week. i havent been to hood though.
camping costs money if you dont find a dope random ass spot (you can only camp in the lot for a few nights at a time, long termers get kicked out), tickets are mad expensive but you can get a job at timberline lodge and they give you a ticket for each day you work, public park is dope
alot of people (seemed mostly like grungy hesh snowboarders haha) just clip tickets from people who are leaving. Like around 12:30 or 1 alot of racers and other people leave because the snow gets slower, so you can snag someones in the parking lot then ride the lift for an hour or two and then after 3 you can hike as long as you want.
camp at the air strip. shower in trillium lake. hiking up can be sketch (getting kicked out after hiking sucks). although you could probably tour up out of bounds as if you are going to ski another part of the glacier then dip in bounds
Ding Ding! - Use the groomed climbers trail, it is not a bad hike. I don't think the danger of getting kicked out is that high, my brother and I hiked every Saturday last year summer (pdx locals) and only got kicked out once.
we should all band together and make a village of steezly gentlemen somewhere in the hood backcountry, and then just live off of gaper meat and use their tickets. PM me if you're down.
if you are going to hike, make sure you hike to the lookers far right. keep a sharp eye though because the public park crew occasionally sweeps the park checking for tickets.
When they caught me and my brother, we just rode down to the parking lot. Technically, I guess they could charge you with trespass, but I really don't think the park crew wants to do that - they are all a good group of guys.
