you only become a house hold name by gettin major sponsors like oakley and red bull. Those companies will spend a ton of money getting your name out there. They'll publicize you outside the immediate ski industry, like on billboards and shwag mags.
But at that point, those athletes just become rediculous characters. Like how simon dumont has really taken up that whole "red bull" thing, or how tanner is the stereotypical weed smoking rasta skier, or jon is an elitist asshole.
Wallnuts keeps it underground, keeps it legit and away from all thatcoorporate hype. You can loose a lot of your passion and creativity for skiing if you do get caught up in it. He's still coming up with new shit and he let's his skiing, not his image, do the talking. I think he's just fine with the level of mainstream recognition he's getting.
Anyway, just be thankful ryan sheckler isn't a pro skier.

It truly amuses me and somewhat disgusts me how some NSers think skiing, especially freeride, is some type of big deal. 90% of people in this country have never been skiing, and you somehow think any skier aside from Picaboo Street or whatever his name was last Olympics could considered a "household name". Hilarious. My question to the author of this thread: can you name the Secretary of State, the Secretary of Treasury? The prime minister of the UK? Oh man, let's get out of our little bubble
PS I think Tom Wallisch is a very talented guy, nothing against him, just the idolization of him.
