What Type of Motorcycle?

What would be a good first bike for me? i want a street bike but nothing too expensive or something too powerful for a first bike. I have ridden dirt bikes a lot but never a street bike. tahnkkkks

Kawasaki ninja 250 or ninja 500

Suzuki sv650

those are all forgiving, good looking bikes that won't break the bank.

i started off on a ninja 250, definitely a fun bike but you may want a tad bit more power. I haven't ridden the 500 but i hear its an excellent bike.

Honda CBR600RR.  I want one SO bad.  Some might say that it's a bit powerful for a first bike, but since you've ridden dirt bikes you should be able to handle the throttle without throwing yourself off lol.  My friend bought a Ninja 250 for his first bike because it was so cheap and now he regrets that he didn't go with something more powerful (he hasn't even had the bike for a year).  By the way, I don't know what you consider inexpensive/cheap so if the CBR is more expensive than what you were looking for, sorry.

9 Grand.................................................. but ninja 250, preferably 2008+ because the older ones look like crap. yamaha has a wrx 250s supermoto made streetbike, its geared for high speed already and what not. DRZ 400... anything along those lines really. dont get a 600cc sport bike for your first bike, you'll die.

haha I didn't remember that was my 1000th... but I think I actually would take the SXV550 over most sportbikes.. but I love my Sportster..

don't get a 250, thats a girls bike, you can defiantly handle atleast a suzuki gs 500. my boy got one and its not bad. decent power but not like a streetbike. i would go with a gsx 600, looking at getting one after deployment. or a bass tracker, not sure yet

ahh the cbr600rr is beautiful. i have been eyeing one for a while thats close by.. i thought the 250 would be good but i think that for 4000 i can almost get a used 600cc

Get  250 unless your pretty big and you've at least ridden a little before or ridden dirt bikes at least or something.

If you want a 600 you could just be totally unoriginal and get a gixxer.

dude get a supermoto they look so damn fun to shred around, without the speeding tickets of a crotch rocket. I've been looking into what bike to get myself this summer and I'm pretty set on the drz400sm. Try to find something negative about it on the internet, you wont. Unless your commute is over 80 mph the drz is where it's at. And it's super cheap and insurance will be less than half as much as for a crotch rocket.

go for any 600cc. i had an r6 for my first bike, but any gsxr600/zx6r/cbr600 would work. definitely get all the gear, at least: helmet, jacket, gloves. there's a saying in the motorcycle community "there's those who have gone down and those that will go down". i crashed going about 70mph, and totalled my bike, but i was able to walk away since my gear protected me.

Don't get scared of displacement, as long as you don't have Parkinson's in your wrists or rocks in your head you'll be fine. Because it's going to hit the asphalt at some point, don't buy new unless you get it from a place that will do a full value trade in on a first bike.

I bought a 2008 kawasaki 250 last year and sold it within two months to get a 2004 R6. That being said, I was glad I got to start riding on something smaller but I quickly outgrew it. I needed something that would be alright for the expressway since I use it to commute back and forth from school. A 250 is not an expressway bike.

Early 2000's 600 class rockets are probably the best for you. They usually run in the 3-4000 range and are excellent bikes... that is if they haven't been wheelie machines (look at the fork seals and make sure second gear is smooth shifting).  Sometimes you can get a steal on a bike with some fairing scuffs if that doesn't bother you... or you can ebay some decent ones and fix it for cheap. Check out the Honda CBR 600 F4I, Kawasaki Ninja 500, 600 or ZX6R, Yamaha YZF 600 or R6, Triumph TT600.

If you don't have a lot of money get an old beater, some kind of 80's 450 that you can handle easily and not feel bad about.

If you have cash then go for the ninja 500, and don't kill yourself.

if you have never ridden, they say to learn on a old bike that isn't too powerful, and not a sport bike. My friend rides a 750cc and that is how he learned and he's the best rider I've ever met. Be smart, you can't just go out and buy a sport bike without learning the rules of the road while on a bike, you're gautanteed to crash horribly.

thats gnarly dude, but yeah you can definitely probably go for a 600cc bike. it also depends on how big you are too. one of my buddies who weighs like 250lbs got a gsxr1000 for his first bike

Wow.... some people in here really have no clue what they're talking about. Don't get a new bike for your first bike, that stupid. Honestly, the best starter bike/sport bike style is a Kawasaki Ninja 500. Enough cc to move fast, but still a relatively lightweight, easy to handle bike. Don't get a Ninja 250, they are geared strangely and have been known to have problems. Don't start with a supersport bike (total crotch rocket/upwards of 600cc), way to much bike for a starter rider. There's no starter bike I can recommend more than a Ninja 500. Look on craigslist, they're all over. And the resale value is virtually the same as the buy value for older ones (I'm talking 90's). I bought my old one for $1500 and sold it for $1675 after a year of riding...

Also, if you want better info, go talk to people that know bikes (bike forums, bike shops, etc.) not a bunch of ski bums haha

where i live the roads are not always in the best shape so i have a drz400 supermoto.  had a cbr600 but it wasnt fun to ride on bump roads with no place to go triple digits for more than a couple seconds. if you have had dirt bikes then you should try the supermoto.

First bike?  start with the  Kawasaki ninja 250.  I started on that bike and it was nice to learn on.  I now have a GSXR 750 and love it.  I am glad I started out on a smaller bike though.
