Religion plays an important role in our society. The population is encouraged to worship one god, the sun. However, if anyone feels the need to follow another religion, whether it be due to their ancestors beliefs or their own, they may do so but they are still encouraged to pray for at least 2 hours a day after suppertime when the god is falling asleep because it is then that the villagers feel the most vulnerable.
The reason why Religion is so highly enforced in our society is because it is so closely knit to their survival: Agriculture. The Sun provides essentials to the villagers; warmth, light and also the aid in growing food. People who do not worship the Sun become known as outcasts to the society. It is when someone goes against The Sun that the villagers feel he or she is betraying what has provided so much for them in the past. They also feel that it’s best to believe in The Sun because there is visual proof in the sky that their god actually exists.
Every year the villagers celebrate the Winter Solstice to thank The Sun for bringing them a good harvest during the season. They also celebrate the Summer solstice, urging The Sun to give them another good harvest. Apart from those two important dates, the villagers also pray double time on Sundays, the day of the Lord, hence the name “Sun”day.
