Steamboat's park

i'm moving to steamboat springs colorado. Never been to steamboat. Is steamboat's park legit? and will my k2 extremes fine at 85 waist or will i need something wider if i'm hitting the peak?

Steamboats park is pretty good. It's no Breck or Keystone, but it's still really fun. They get a LOT of snow over there, so having a wider ski for pow days wouldn't be a bad idea. But the K2's will work really well when it hasn't dumped.

yeah it dumps at steamboat. there park is pretty cool. some fun rail and a couple legit jumps

This years set up did not change at all but pretty much consisted of:

1 legit jump...way more mellow then past years but still pretty fun.

a horribly cut pipe and 1/4pipe

a fdfd, fd, rainbow, down box, 2 flat boxes, and an up rail.

Its really nothing special but we do get a shit load of snow.

there is a nice upflatdown with lots of ways to get onto it. I was there in december so I don't know how good the jumps get later but there were 2 nice 40-50 footers.

Lived there last winter and the park wasn't anything crazy but you don't move to the boat for their park...plenty of sick tree runs to get you by...moving back in august to go to cmc. couldn't stay away

hell yeah, going this fall for ski and snowboard business!

and for the pow, i know everyone is lovin the hellbents, but i tried 09/10 liberty helix and i gotta say they were gnarly. would you guys recommend the helixs for steamboat? and how about the armada JJ?

first of all, steamboat is the shit. the park is no breck or key, but it can be pretty darn fun. some of the best tree skiing in the country, and lots of fun random jibs throughout the mountain.


as for the skis, isnt the helix a pretty stiff, more charging ski? for steamboat, with all the glades and whatnot, id go with a softer jibbier pow ski. but thats just me.

Actually just the opposte, the Helix is a considerably soft ski, full bamboo core, great for going everywhere. That would be a perfect ski for the Boat... maybe heven the Double Helix.

I use the Phil Larose pro for most days, and the Double Helix for pow. It's a perfect setup in my opinion.

The poser ass cowboys that live in steamboat are the worst. But it seems they always get dumped on, and the mountain is pretty fun to ski.

it has its own lift but it isnt steep enough, pretty good though.

agreed, i've only skied the helix a few times but it was gnarly, do you know if the double helix skis about the same besides the fat waist. libertys are awesome, the hazmat and the PL pro are all pretty nice.

isnt steep enough? the top of bashor is wayyyy to steep. they need to move it someplace flatter. and someplace where all the lines dont need to condense into one.

They do ski similar. But the DH is a bit harder to get on an edge on hardpack, not super hard... just different. It's about the same flex too. Living in Colorado, and having a ski like the DH is perfect. I rode some Steamboat Backcountry pow lines on the DH today and had no problems whatsoever.

Plus, it is Mini-rockered.
