Replying to HELP! audio production software question

k, i'm in my Survey of the Music Industry class and we're talking about recent technological advances in production... i remember seeing a link on here at one point over the past 8 months or so that was about a program that allows you to take apart any audio recording- live or studio- track-by-track and manipulate any element of each track. i recall watching a video about it, but can't remember the name of the software and have been searching for 10~15 mins, so if someone could help me find the name of the software and/or the link that would be much appreciated.
