Export help

When i export from FCE i have been exporting in 1280 x 720 under "Quicktime Conversion" using letterbox to preserve aspect ratio. When i don't select "preserve aspect ratio" the compressed video is squashed vertically, but using letterbox to preserve aspect ratio makes it appear tiny on vimeo/youtube/NS or wherever i upload the video. (like this)


My camera shoots in HD so i don't get why the picture is distorted when i export in the same resolution. I also want to be able to watch my video on Vimeo without using a magnifying glass. This is a pretty noobish question but I'm a noob to this forum so fill me in! (Editing criticism is also appreciated, hope its not too much of a hack job.)

Make sure you when you export to have the settings on "current settings" then it will be full quality and whatever your sequence settings are.

Try this

Under settings
compressor Type: H.264
Data Rate: restrict to 1500-1700 you pick what you like but some where in there
Motion: Key frame automatic
Encoding Best Quality

Ignore the filters

Size
set it to current this should grey out preserve aspect ratio, if you can the size use fit to dimension this will keep everything right, but you might get bars some way depending on the size you put in.

Deinterlace Source check this so your video will be small and look better if you shot interlaced

Audio
AAC format 48. whatever khz will work fine

Prepare for internet streaming: Fast start

hope that helps/works this will give you an over all high quality video that is actually small enough to put on the web.

You shouldn't compress in final cut unless you're using compressor, use quicktimepro.

I would not compress using just File>export> Quicktime Movie but if you are using File>Export> using quicktime conversion it is the same as using quicktime pro, which I find to be faster and easier  then using compressor for a job like this although compressor is great and for a while it was all I used for everthing.
