Moving a quicktime movie into imovie to edit?

does anyone know how to do this? a kid made an edit of my schools rail jam and i have it on my comp as a quicktime movie. i want to edit it some more and get the footage of me from it and add it to another edit. i have tried the basics. drag and drop etc but cant seem to figure it out.

i couldn't find anything on this in particular so anything would be a great help! thanks!

I had the same problem a while a go. I found this converter, works well.

only problem is it only lets u convert like 5 videos without buying

you caqn also use this thing calledmpeg stream clip
