Am i the only person who thinks hes taking stuff wayyyy too far?? It seems like he cant even take skiing seriously now. I mean you cant all the time but sometimes you need to. First it was the annoying Hyphy edits then his joss edit which IMO sucked. The song was the main focus want it supposed to be the skiing? O yeah theres a couple skiing clips in there. I mean you can be funny and still take skiing somewhat serious.

it was funny for a bit, but i'd have to agree it's getting kind of annoying. Obviously he takes skiing seriously tho, it's a big part of his life.

i am lightened up. Skiing to me is all about having fun too. but theres certain times you wanna take it seriously. I just find him annoying anymore at first he was funny now hes not.

I agree. If you're not completely fucking serious, you shouldn't consider yourself a skier. Who the hell does John Symms think he is, running around having fun?! Dick Cheney should have been Colby's partner at JOSS. Send Symms to the salt mines!

plus whats the point of skiing of you cant have as much fun as possible? which is what symms is doing. taking it serious ruins all the fun.

Symms has been rocking it hard for longer then most of you have been on snow. He was the first one who i'd even seen do a switch 900 on skis. Back in like 2000 or 2001

I like Symms, got nothing against him. However, JOSS is a huge, I take that back, the BIGGEST competition in freeskiing right now and to be a part of that is an honor in and of itself. I personally think if anyone is invited, they should take full advantage of the opportunity given. You only have so many days to get time hitting those features as well as enjoying the gnarliest parties. A music video can be made whenever, wherever. I am not disappointed at the outcome of their video because it was pretty creative, but I feel like with a competition such as JOSS, each invited rider needs to take full advantage of the primary objective of being there (skiing). Many kids would kill to hit that shit! Just my opinion.

I also love the hyphy edits...shout out to kevin federline was probably my favorite quote.

i disagree in a lot of ways... first off that video had to be made at joss, since the whole reason he got to go to joss is because his friend is a pro.  and it wouldnt have gotten as much coverage otherwise. secondly, i think symms is hilarious, and brings some fresh insight to a scene dominated by the opinions of suburban teens and pros who show how many concussions theyve had every time they speak.  third, like everyone with a passion for skiing, he wants to live the pro life as much as he can and continue to ski, travel, and party. in order to do that, you need to sell yourself to sponsors as someone who attracts attention to their product and personality is a bigger factor than a lot of people realize.  by john's own admission he's not able to podium the big comps or put out the most hardcore xxtreme segments, but by upping his profile in this way he's increasing his value to his sponsors.  thats all, big ups johns symms.

Dude Symms is the man.   He makes skiing fun and thats what it is.   Team USA was going for peoples choice more than anything.   JOSS is a great event and everything, but you need people like Symms to keep it iteresting.   Dumont, Jon Olsson and everyone else all look and act the same at all these event.   Dumont literelly says the same thing in every intervue.   Also the weather at JOSS wasnt very good, so why not have some fun then.

his and wests JOSS edit was awesome!! (even if jon totally bashed them not being serious enough)  i think that its ok to have a little fun like that the whole song was sooo creative and no skiing?? that double at the begining was sooo perfect!!

but all those other edits he does...the hyphy edits and shit i just think are fucking retarded!! they take it to a whole new level and yeah i know they are making fun of other ppl that are acyually serious about all that shit but just my opinion....

In a lot of ways Symms is holding up a mirror to the freeskiing community and pointing out what he sees as ridiculous.  His hyphy edits point out a lot of the weird fads that we freeskier like and just the fact that you are getting so anxious about his hyphy edits proves how invested the community is in the image that Symms is making fun of.  The freeskiing community is working so hard to make a particular image of itself and Symms turns that image on its head by making a stereotype out of the people who are trying to break the stereotype of skiers as spandex wearing, gate racing Bode Millers. 

sparknotes:  Symm's acting like a dork reveals how much of a tool the stereostypical freeskier is.

Fuck anyone who doesn't like john symms, it's skiing that he's doing for a living, skiing, a sport, why should he take it overly serious, he has fun, probably more fun then anyone else and his edits are more fun to watch than any other edits.
Yeah, there could have been a bit more skiing in his joss video but at least it didn't have that boring ass, try to make it seem like skiing is a life or death matter intro that most of the other videos had.
