ok so I am not fucking asking if I should or what u think of them because I don't give a shit, so don't post if all u have to say is 'unless your black u will look like shit' or somthing like thAT!
so anyway I have some questions for people who have, or have had dreds:
-my hair is about 5 or 6 inches long, is that long enough to start?
-what are some methods for natuarlly creating dreds?
-how hard are they to mantain?
-should I get the dread starter kit from http://www.dreadheadhq.com ? (it comes with a strong metal comb, special wax, special dred soap, this stuff that is supposed to help your hair lock together, rubber bands and instructions)
thanx for the help

well that takes longer and your hair gets gross.
for those of your who didn't know u can still wash your hair and have dreads (if u use the right soap u can have better dreads than if u don't wash your hair!)

yea use that special soap, but that is long enough for you to start them, it will look stupid though because they are so short, if you waited till your hair is longer they will look pretty sweet i would see how much the crap in that kit costs regularly and if its cheaper buy seperate, obviously, but things like rubber bands are real cheap so dont pay for them and the instructions are pretty basic

I have dreads but i got a dread perm. So I don't got wax or anythign in mine which is what i like but i know people who used the starter kits and liked them but ive seen all sorts of dreads and I did some researched and seemed like dread perm was the way to go for me, but not all towns have someone that does dread perms but if there is you should talk to them about it.

If you dont want dreads ALL the time.. but just want to see what it looks like.. there is this stuff that you can get at a salon or somewhere dealing with hair. I forget what it's called but anyway...You put this stuff on your hands and then twist it in your hair... and it like, makes dreads. But they come out when you wash your hair. I would try that before you make anything permanent.

Yes. At first they might look kind of goofy, but after a month or two they will look fine. And in the long run this is better because they dread up more and look a lot better.
-what are some methods for natuarlly creating dreds?
Backcombing. Look on the dreadhead site.
-how hard are they to mantain?
Not too hard. Wash them every 2-3 days. Wax them once a week. Roll them once a day.

YES!!! thats what I got and it worked amazingly. Its like $30 if I remember right. Get it.

I don't know if you need a starter kit, I didn't use one for my dreads, and they came out quite nice.

dont put rubber bands at the base. if you do, the new hair growing in wont dread up. just keep them at the tips for awhile.

don;t I have to put bands on at the base in order to get all the dreads to be in rows (that is what it says at dreadhq anyway)
also how many friends could I do this with?
(only one of my friends that I know well enough to ask them to help with this actually wants me to get dreads)

yea your supposed to put them on the base a t first to mark off your indiviual dreads, but after you backcomb each one, then take em off.

I saw this thing that said to push the ends (the loose ones) back in the gred with a rubber band on them and they you won't have to worry about the ehd not treding up and it would just grow like that and the end would aloways be good. how does that work, you just shove the loos part witha rubber band on it in the middle or what? and do you even need to do this or should the ends dread up automatically?
