the x-games kick progression in the balls

i personally think that the x-games just handed any concept of progression for skiing a swift kick in the junk
the judging is so messed up
just putting your hand on the ground on a switch corked 9 takes your score from an 80 to a 40
its rediculous cuz it sez to all the skiers 'just land what u r comfortable with'
they sed dumont was working on 12s the day before and there was only one 10 thrown
i just think that the judging system is gonna limit what the skiers want to do for fear of dropping 40 pts

But all of the jumps were pretty average size, the only really cool original thing was the stairilizer, other than that the course just looked flat.

yah, it's sooooooooooo hard to have a perfect run, it's like 10-20 jumps/rails and to not fall on at least one, or just put your hand down is almost luck.

I also thought the course was looking a little rough...Couldn't get enough speed for some jumps, and others they were getting too much. Seemed like the jumps were limiting the skiers too.

Contests aren't designed to be super progressive. You can't win by crashing a bigger trick than someone, so whats the point in hucking something you can't do? That's what BC booters and shit are for. You go to comps to throw what you have learned, and what you can land. Again, you don't win by crashing.

the money booter should have been more than 45 feet

they dont have that much snow to work with, they have a 34 inch base....and the score didnt drop 40 pts for touching hand it dropped 40 points because of lack of rails AND the airs not being clean...tanners run wasnt the most technical but it was the most solid and displayed a good variety of airs and rails......

If I remember right, Tanner didn't throw a single unnatural trick. Jon killed it with a switch unnatty 5 into an unnatty 5, stomped all his rails and landings... and that's all I need to know.

jon's style is wack. tanner deserved the gold period. olenick killed it too

i thought it was progressive as hell. i mean, people are throwing 450s, unnattys, one footers, and all kinds of crazy other shit in their comp runs. the tricks thrown in those runs would have made for, like, the movie part of the year a few years ago. and the judging was fine, they took everything into account very well, especially style, which i think is a good thing. and tanners and peter's runs were basically a toss up between each other, they did the best they could.

yeah the money booter this year was tiny shit, i mean 45 feet is pathetic for the x games, i mean the comp wasnt bad but last years was soo much better

45 is really small for any of those guys - there are jumps in black parks that are bigger.
Apparently the jumps were smaller to force the guys to be more techincal rather then just huck huge..
I don't know if I agree with it. I think getting huge air is part of it.

it was 45 from lip to drop off of landing and since the money booter isnt a table top they were traveling quite a ways down the landing so they were going like 60-70 feet really which is a good sized comp jump.
i would much rather be an acquired taste, than a common flavor

i bet they were all thankful of the smaller jumps, the light looked pretty flat with snowfall. They probably didn't want anyone hurting themselves either, like at the timberline session the jumps in all were smaller than superpark 3 from mammoth but they were still super sick.

A lot of the guys were surprised they were so small and felt it was created for the girls snowboarding rather then for them -- and the 45 WAS still smaller then most major comp jumps.. it definatly didn't compare..

Once again I think Jon's run was underated. Last year was amazing, Tanner's run blew me away. This year, he had an awsome disaster nose press, and 450 to rail(tap), everything else was ok. Pete olenick got a high score for throwing an unatty 720, but all of his tricks lacked style. I hope superpipe will be better.

I think that all the upper jumps were the right size, but i think the money booter should have been bigger, also..i think that all the riders would have done alot better if it werent flat light and snowing

I agree. I think the hits were a littel smallish, but the course itself was creative and progressive. Though the judging of the first run threw me, I, think that the judges were, just as 'tara' noted, forcing Tanner and the gang to step it up. Can't wait for Superpipe!

If Simon had stuck that last fucking switch 9 or 10 he would have placed for sure.. I'd definitely give him the win over tanner if he had only landed that last jump.

Tanner did throw a unnatty 5 blunt in there..
But teah,Dumont was killing it in the prelims, but personally,I think Olenick should have won..

Last year's course was a lot nicer -- bigger, better flow, more interesting features including a big gap. I think they probably expected a few people to hit the stairilizer as a rail all the way over but I only saw a single snowboarder even try it.
And, yeah, I think it should have been Olsson, Olenick and then Tanner. Huge judging bias, IMHO.
