Eh I wouldnt go as far as swearing off the mountain, can you truly tell me they did their best? I mean yeah they had little to work with but Myself and a couple of friends had many ideas as to what we could do with some of the stuff there, we even gave some red bulls to the park crew guys to build a lip onto a rail that was just chillin and noone had even hit yet. Also I never once saw mark hit anything, no hate on that, but i believe at a small mountain like west the head of the park needs to hit what he builds in order to see how it is and what the take offs are like and especially the landings which were always flat and you may just say "its west mountain" but honestly come on when everyone who rides their normally is complaining their flat and even the park crew themselves say they are you should at least look into fixing them but maybe the groomers did not want to help which is fine but say so instead of o its west mountain. On an other note Dane from what I know did care a lot just didnt have much say maybe? I dont now why they both were let go but it is what it is. I feel bad for them both but dont go swearing off the mountain I am sure the success the park did have this year did not go un noticed and in someway will reflect that next season.
apparently you dont have many friends
there are plans to move the park somewhere else but Im not sure how fast that will happen or if it will.
Also we were promnised new rails for next year, as well as tools, every tool that we had this past year was hit with the cat. I took all them home, fixed them on my own time and brought them back but people who didnt work there used them and broke them, a rake is not a hammer. If I didn't fix them we would have had no tools at all.
I put a ton of hours in this year alot of 14 hr days and 60+ hour weeks and didn't , miss a single day i was supposed to work, but I cant fix flat landings with a shovel and I can't build a take off from rock solid death ice, there is only so ,many ways you can set up an 8 foot rail with two kinks in it.
I was basically the only one holding it down the last few weeks and I appologize for the shitty setup but I got really fucking burned out at having to do everything by myself when there were other guys not showing up for work and making me have to cover for them. Rusty was like the only one who would actually do good work when he showed up.
All the rails that we got from Mt. Snow weren't very good at all and two of them never even made it out. I wanted to fnish all the other ones and offered to do it like once a week but I had to be in the park the whole time I was there and couldn't leave cause no one else would do it, they all wanted to spin laps around.
I don't know where all the hype and shit came from but I was not responsible for any of that. CORY had alot to do with this. He was the one who convinced me to leave gore and come to west, granted The fact that I was fucking done with Gore anyway. He was like "yo its gonna be the shit, we're getting a stair case, we're gettin a pipe cutter, we're getting the moon and all of the face, and jesus him self". He started a bunch of shit with all you guys and then bailed out. Once I started at west I was really let down and disappointed, I had soooooo much more freedom to do what I wanted but a lack of resources to get it done. It was a complete flip of Gore who has the money but lack of ideas and ambition.
Everyone says they can do a better job but i doubt it casue you are always limited with resources. Im not saying specificly the people in this thread but there is lalot of others who think the same. I can give the example of how in the middle of building the last set up we had Mike came flying up on the sled and said we had to be done with the cat in 45 min and that he didnt want to spend the money on diesel. So things got left the way they were.
West has a shitty vibe to it thats what it comes down too. I don't really think of it as a mountain but more of a place people go when they don't feel like riding a real mountain or to kill time on a week night. Im Not too sure on how I like the local crew there, they really aren't fun to ride with. I barely rode at all this year casue it just wasn't fun for me. I just really hate the atmosphere there. Everyone was just so fucking negative that it bothered me to the point where I almost quit or no showed multiple times.
But yeah. Next year if we are still around Mark will be hiring more people and we're purging the worthless ones.
No disrespect to any one, I just wanted to get some of this rant out of my mind. Its really hard to understand what goes down there. Everyone is around mid day when its nice sunny and warm but they aren't there when we are doing work at 11am after being there all day or when we come in early at 4 am, they just see us sitting around after dark and wondering why we are so lazy. Usually we were the first ones there and last ones out.
Sorry for this long rambling but what ever
I've only gone to west once but the park staff there were pretty fucking cool. The park was iced to shit but you really cant do much about that. But I have to amit the landings were terrible and it was a struggle to just land a 3. I wouldn't mind going to west but gores just easier....even though gores park is depressing.
