Everyone knows that.  By the end of this year about 30% of American will own blue ray players.  Over 36% of Americans already own HDTV's.  76% of Americans have access to the internet. Now, if we assume that the 30% of Americans that own blue ray players are also the same bracket that have internet acess, then 39% of Newschoolers.com members have blueray players.  Another 6% will have them by the end of the year.   So... if it were released on DVD and Blueray and the price diferential was nominal, then it is fairly safe to say that about 20% of the Jon's movie sales would be blueray.

This is why MSP is now using blueray

I was not giving my thoughts on DVDs as an ahead of the curve thinker, I was specifically talking to the person who replied to the idea of selling DVDs and said it would be sweet to watch the HD clips.

On second thought, I would argue that the majority of people in the US, or the world, or specifically on NS do not know that DVDs cannot play in HD. It seems fairly apparent to those of us who deal with things like digital video, but we are far outweighed by those who think that DVDs are HD.

wrong.

You can burn HD movie files to a DVD disc.  The only problem is that HD movies take up so much room that you would only be able to put a small portion of each movie on a disc.

Your other problem would be that DVD players would not be able to play the content back, some BlueRay players will, some HD-DVD players will, and most computers will..

but at that point, you would just want to burn to BlueRay to begin with.

Even though copious people have said this is a one year old thread people are still debating if they are coming out in HD and saying it would be sick.

Jon announced Team NS one year ago and we just saw them throw down in a sick comp. I cannot wait for the edits... :-)

He should release the same as Hunting Yeti did. Free standard quality edits of the teams (+colbys video because everyone wants to see that), then sell a dvd to coincide with them of a coverage of the event, extras, JOI, the parties, how the awards went down, + higher res views of the team edits.

It worked for Hunting Yeti and it would defs work for JOSS

I strongly disagree; this comp is for the progression of the sport, not the progression of Jon’s bank account(s).  Jon makes enough cash as is!

Don’t charge broke ass skiers for something that should be free.

[if !supportEmptyParas] The sponsors will get more views and bang for their buck if the content is free on the web.  Therefore, they will have more incentive to pay up....

Yes the comp may have a high cost to put on, but I for one will not support the profligacy of professional skiers!
