two stroke=snappy, aesome power. Four stroke =short gears, torque, and wieght. I say 2-stroke by far!!! so much more fun.

i personally own a rm 125, love it, my first bike and dont have alot of expierience at all. i love the power band

when i had my kx250f i spent at minimum $600 a year on valves and we did everything ourselves
2 strokes the most ull need is $100 for rings

i have both 2 and 4 stroke bikes. i do most of my riding in fields and hitting jumps now, so I prefer the two stroke. When i was more into the woods i appreciated the 4, but im currently in the process of selliing it.

i switched from 2 to 4 for multiple reasons.

for me, the 2 stroke was very jumpy, not as predictable as the 4 stroke.  the 4 stroke was way smoother, and easier to stand up on since it was smoother.  The engine breaking helps you stop faster so you can accelerate harder into corners, also since its so smooth and has so much more traction than a 2 stroke, you can carry more momentum through corners and have more tractable power coming out.

you can see by watching the pro's, they might not sound like they are going fast as shit, but thats because they ride smooth, carry momentum, and dont make mistakes - all while going as fast as they can.  I think its a lot harder to ride smooth like that on a 2 stroke.


howeverrrrr, the 2 stroke is nice for the power in grass tracks and what not...but ever since i switched, i feel like its just so low-tech and it like gives me a headache lol.   what can i say, i used to be  a non-believer, but after riding my thumper, i cant say i want to even ride another 2-stroke!

valid point, as stated before i mainly ride 2-strokes cause they are cheaper. i am broke and dont have the money to throw down on a 4 stroke. i plan on buying a four stroke but i will probably keep my two stroke cause they are so fun. all of my friends ride four strokes and i understand why and they are better for riding around here.

i used to feel the same way, i used to think that four strokes were the only way to go and they made riding fast a lot easier, than i got my 300 exc and im starting to think that 2 strokes are the way to go

I raced 80's and 125's for about 5 years. When the 4 strokes hit the market I said no way will I ever convert to the thumpers... and then I rode one. I always liked the 2 stroke's snappy power band but once you get used to the smooth power it is hard to go back. I loved coming out of tight corners right into a big double on the 2 stroke because you could seat bounce it in the power and get over the jump. It was also fun in the whoops if you blitzed them right and kept it up in the power the whole way through... but if you didn't, the front wheel would drop and usually a crash followed. The 2 stroke was fun for those reasons however, the 4 stroke has the balls to do the same thing and I learned to appreciate the smooth power in so many more areas of the track.

alright this is no hating whatsoever towards anyone, but what i observed is that is is harder t ride a 2 stroke and be fast than it is to ride a four stroke. four strokes can make anyone fast but two strokes take a different type of feel to be faster on, but when people can ride 2 strokes right, they can be just as fast or faster than 4 strokes.
ps ive ridden both and i like both for different reasons so once again this is no hate

it all depends on the rider and his style really.  i see more noobs in races on two strokes afraid to hit the gas putting around than i see people on fourstrokes.

i think your right, 4-strokes probably are easier to ride and learn, and 2-strokes offer great power and advantages in many places, but it depends on the rider.

like i make my 4-stroke work by riding waaaay high in the powerband,  if you cant hear me from a mile away then i'm not riding it right in my eyes.  you gotta stay high to stay in the good power (all depends on the terrain).   but the 2-strokes are completely different, you need to hammer it on the exits of corners and  break really hard and just repeat.

idk its hard to explain i guess lol, but i agree with you

right which is why i had so many problems on a 250f, it was all bark and no bite in the high rpm's and doing valves was a nightmare. 4 strokes arent for me is basically what im tryin to say, idk what it is about the power of a 2 stroke but i love it a lot more than 4

2's take way more skill to ride FOR SURE. They make you a more aggressive rider, and if u get on a 4, and ride it like a 125. U WILL RIP!!!!! No joke.

like in my post earlier, going through whoops for instance, on my 125 I was fast because I had the choice to keep it in the power and blitz through wicked fast or to drop a wheel and lose all my speed and/or crash. Kind of a choice to be either on the edge and fast or take it easier and be safe. On a 4 I wasn't forced to blitz through whoops. I could double through, roll or blitz them all being fairly easy where on a 2 it took much more control. That's just my example for one area of riding as there are different aspects for different terrain. However, there are areas where I was faster on a 4, noticeably flat corners as I could engine brake in and roll back on without breaking much traction. On the 2 I would usually slide in and then slide back out in the power band.

I think the most important thing is once you get to a certain level, you're going to be fast on anything. An A rider will always be an A rider.

i think it depends on what you ride too.  i mean i see MX'ers all switching to 4-bangers and all which i understand,  but where i really think the 4-strokes shine is in offroad.  Going over roots, through mud, or anywhere traction is normally an issue, the 4-stroke just seems to grip where the 2 stroke doesnt-- or it takes more skill and time to navigate through it.

haha i miss my 2-stroke basically never.  except one place....fast open grass tracks.  the tight ones the 4 stroke still can hold traction better than the 2 stroke, but god damn if it's a fast track with open corners,  the 2-stroke just riipppps.
