Actually here are the 2008-2009 regular season stats.  While defensive ability can be a little difficult to judge here are the stats for 2 big categories: Blocked Shots and Takeaways:

Datsyuk
-BS: 33
-TA: 89

Zetterberg
-BS: 32
-TA: 42

Crosby
-BS: 42
-TA: 56

Malkin
-BS: 39
-TA: 94

Crosby has more blocked shots than Datsyuk, and more blocked shots and takeaways than Zetterberg.
Malkin leads the league in takeaways and has more blocked shots than both Datsyuk and Zetterberg.

By no means are Datsyuk and Zetterberg bad players.  Any team would love to have both of them.  But to say that Crosby doesn't have an presence in the defensive end is ridiculous.  I don't know how Malkin can have more blocked shots and takeaways than Datsyuk and not be nominated for the Selke... can somebody please explain this to me?  Obviously there are other factors in "playing defensively" like being in position and to some extent hits.  But blocked shots and takeaways are definitely 2 huge categories.

Good lord... Grubix, stop talking about things. Seriously I can't help but come off like a jerk here, the crap you've been saying is just absurd. Crosby and Malkin are not defensively irresponsible players (a la Kovalchuk) but they are not great two-way forwards. Stats do not trump watching and knowing the game itself... for example, Crosby's takeaways are mostly in the offensive zone because he's very strong below the red line. Pittsburgh DOES have a top ten defenisve forward: Jordan Staal. Zetterberg is probably the most complete player in the league right now and Datsyuk is near the top as well. That's the result of the Red Wings scouting and development system that started under Bowman and Lewis (who made Yzerman and Fedorov into the complete players they became in the 90s), and now is central to the team's philosophy. All of their homegrown players and guys who have been there since Bowman have defensive responsibilities emphasized first; look at this playoff run and Franzen, Draper, Maltby, Helm, Abdekader, Hudler, even Samuelsson since he came over from New Jersey after his rookie season. There is simply no comparison defensively there. Zetterberg and Datsyuk, when they're together, are 2/3 of probably the best checking line in the league. Would you take them over Malkin and Crosby? Depends if you want pure scorers or more complete players.

When Jonathan Ericsson awoke in the hospital after his emergency appendectomy he tried to find the game on TV, but the hospital didn't have versus. He called his girlfriend and she drove him to JLA to watch the game in the Box. Sucks even the players can't watch their own game on VS.

My thoughts exactly I just wrote a letter to the NHL cause I was so pissed off. The league is so far up crosby's ass its rediculous. He's the whiniest little bitch in the whole league and all the players voted on that. I mean that call on Ericsson? seriously wtf? and then no call on cooke when he elbowed helm in the face? And malkin not being suspended made me want to bash my face into the wall. When that carolina guy fought, he took the instigator, his team was losing, and it was out of frustration. Malkin does the exact same thing and within 10 minutes of the end of the game they announce he's free to go and that he committed no suspendible act. So basically I want to send out a big FUCK YOU to the people in charge for being so terribly biased.

god i hate the playoffs they always bring out the worst in me

the penguins had 6 people on ice for 30 seconds and it wasnt called, if it were a game your team was playing and the other team did that u would be pissed aswell so dont act like its no big deal

im not saying it was a perfectly called game. that was somewhat retarded on the officials' part, but shit like that happens. if you will recall last year's playoffs, detroit scored a game-winning goal after the puck was clearly shot into the netting above the glass.
