Well, the Roman Catholic Church more or less designed the entire modern western world and its values.... I guess there are a few people that have reason to be bitter. Its more the organizations and individual extremists that get associated with the bad things, which is unfortunate because they are in turn associated with everyone. Religion has a lot of potential to do good, but it gets twisted and misconstrued a lot of the time. But this also stands true for the ownership of personal firearms - you can own a gun, but what you use it for is how you define its morality.
I for one have no problem with religious people. I will gladly discuss religion with anyone. But I don't want anyone telling me that I am going to Hell for any reason. I will extend the same courtesy to religious people and not dispute whether or not there is a god. But I would technically consider myself agnostic. So that works out nicely anyways.
